If the fucking football last week and this week is what causes Brexit to happen, I'll hate sports even more than I already do.

Yeah, I've been thinking the last few daysa bout that 'recognising the concerns people have about immigrants' issue. And the argument that by not recognising those concerns, we're driving people into the arms of the fascists.

How did they guy put it last night...

When we talk about these 'fascists and their attitudes towards immigrants', what we do is make people with concerns about immigrants stop and think hey, who are these fascist guys? They sound really cool and interesting that they are actually doing something about my concerns about immigration.

Which probably is the mind set at work.

But.... as your link says... the people with concerns about immigration are just quantifiably provably wrong about most of the things they believe.

But... there needs to be a different strategy to address this. Because they won't listen to 'you are wrong'.

As tempting and satisfying as it is, just shouting at them and calling them racist morons is not helping.

Indeed not, no. But sadly trying to debate with them with facts and statistics doesn't seem to be helping either.

COAB, I don't have time to read this sort of thing. What is it with articles that read like the start of a fucking novel?

I mean, sheesh, they should just start 'It was a dark and stormy night' and be done with it.

Is the whole Brexit thing actually being staged for a reality show? I assume someone somewhere is filming it all and editing it so there's some kind of sense to it. Otherwise it's not comprehensible how any of it could be happening... well, trolls, but still...

It is totally surreal. The scene yesterday where several of the leave campaign were filming on boats, but were prevented from doing so by a flotilla headed by Bob Geldof was just......well put this way if the writers of The Thick of It had suggested it as a story, I reckon it would have been rejected as too improbable.
