It wasn't until Montpellier got it's fourth tram that we had a tram that took normal people where they wanted to go and even that one is sort of dodgy. It goes to the arena, which is great for getting to a concert. But... it stops running at midnight, so, if for example, completely from personal experience, you go see Guns N. Roses and Axl doesn't even bother getting on stage until 10:30 p.m. you are fucked and walking the four miles back into town ( ... )

Yeah, the plan was for the tram to go from one of the most populated areas (Leith) to one of the biggest business areas (The Gyle), but the current 2/3 finished state means it goes to The Gyle (and the airport) but only from the centre of town. Which isn't much use. It really needs to have the original route finished to be at all feasible. Which, as they own the track and the trams to do so already, and did all the prep work of moving the pipes from beneath the roads, ought to be a no-brainer.

But because they fucked up the original build (by signing terrible contracts, and running the operation so badly), it's now a political football. I'm hoping it goes through in the next couple of years though.

Warren was by a very large margin the scariest thing Buffy ever explored. Vaguely prescient of MRAs too.

And meditation, I have on very good authority, is something that should not be attempted by people who are actively mentally unwell. You apparently need a fairly stable brain space before you start meditation, otherwise yes, it can be decidedly harmful.

(Not in all cases obviously. But enough that people should take care.)

The thing is I always thought it was obvious that he was terrifying.

He's the personification of the patriarchy and symbolizes that no matter how strong you are as a woman (since Buffy is clearly the strongest women on Earth) the patriarchy can still destroy you.

The scariest monster, however, in Buffy is one t hat is rarely discussed - "real life."

Everyone is like "the season after Glory doesn't have a big bad!"

It certainly does. It has paying bills and getting a shitty part time job and raising your little sister on your own and dealing with feeling betrayed by someone you love.

That's the big bad of that season and it's far more horrifying than Warren.

What? No. Paying bills and feeling betrayed is scarier than Warren? Or Elliot Rodgers?

Nope. No. I'm sorry, doing real life is not nearly as scary as the patriarchy. Unless you count the fact that dealing with this terrifying crap is part of everyday life for women.

The transition from child to an adult is absolutely terrifying. particularly when it's thrust on you out of nowhere like it is for her.

Deep fried haggis should only be tried once? HERESY.

Also: the thing about teacher training scares me a little because it's something I want to do fairly soon. I suspect being a teacher is a bit like being a parent: there are always going to be people lining up to tell you how you're Doing It Wrong, so even if you spend all your time reading every available source you'll still get it wrong. Oh well.

Warren is obviously the worst person on Buffy. So creepy, so cruel and completely unaware of how awful he is, so very realistic.

I agree. Deep fried Mars Bar, however, is definitely something that should only be tried once.

I had a deep fried mars bar once (when I was living in Edinburgh) and I was very impressed.

I think that they're comparing them to the average prices of taxis, rather than the ludicrous price of everything in London.

Also housing...

Who is the most terrifying Buffy villain? gwendysmile February 7 2016, 14:53:41 UTC
This is also exactly why I think Gaston is the scariest Disney villain, the only one that's genuinely terrifying.

I dunno. I think Frollo gives him a run for his money. Brrrrr.
