Meta-point: I am getting increasingly frustrated with the Independent. It's one of the worst offenders for in-your-face ad stuff, especially on mobile, where it's almost impossible to tap the multiple 'close ad' buttons you need to to get to the content without inadvertently clicking 'play' on a noisy video. (I suspect it's as bad or worse on desktop without adblocking.) And once you finally get to the content, it seems increasingly low-value and borderline misleading or worse.

I think I'll be happier if I skip Independent links unless the discussion suggests it's worth it, rather as I do for the DM.

Not saying you should change your practices, just sharing an observation in case others have noticed the same.

Yeah. The mixture of actually-decent articles and clickbait is very annoying.

Got any recommendations for better newspapers?

Not that you're not on top of already. Teh Graun and BBC News are my main online sources, the FT in dead tree format.
