WOW. You've read the whole post?! SERIOUSLY?! I managed to capture your attention for that long? I'm awesome!

And it was easier, because I was talking about slash TO normal people, not WITH normal people. And theirs first reaction was "HUH?!" Then: "UNGH" and finally "AND YOU WRITE IT?!" Basically acting as if they were the ones missing out and should regret it, helps. I went there with the attitude titled: I know you will think I'm a freak, I know I am a freak, and you totally suck for not being freak with me.

PS. Do I get extra point for using "The internet is for porn" sentence in my presentation? :D

Gee, Andy! :d And I get it, thinking they'll label you as a freak. I had a project about fanfiction too, at school. I made a little dictionary, explained them what we do, why we do it and where can you find it and I also showed them few fics. Unfortunately, my classmates weren't as understanding. Yes, they asked lots of questions, but then they joked about my hobby. :(

Well, I'm proud of you and I'm really happy it went well. :)

I wouldn't mind if they labaled me a as a freak after listening to me, but I was afraid, they wouldn't even bother, you know? And that would suck. I know some people in my group like me even less than they already did, but quite frankly the feeling is completely mutual.

It sucks that it didn't work for you. I guess I was in priviliged situation because between cosplays and twilight I came out as the most sane one. (weird!)
