Remember how back in August you were doing all those polls for me?  About e-collections and themes and prices and whatnots?
Well, guess what?  The first collection is up and running!  (and the crowd goes wild!)(ish... wildish)  Thank you all for your help through out the decision making!

Although all sites, formats, and possiblities have been ( Read more... )

I was wondering what I'd be reading while driving to New York Comic Con... I think it's this :D

...that is to say, I'll be reading in the backseat while someone else drives.

I should have waited for Smashwords. I went to the B&N site, and they let me order (after updating my credit card details from the last time I ordered from them), and the order went through. It appeared in my library. But when I tried to download it I was told "you have ordered using an invalid credit card so you can't download" (so why didn't it tell me that when I ordered the book and before it put it in "my library"?). Around an hour later I get an email confirming that -- and telling me that Nook books are not available ouside the US and Canada. So why the F*** didn't they say that when I tried to order it??? They have my address which learly says United Kingdom, why are they wasting my time trying to correct a perfectly good credit card entry?

No, it's not your fault. But maybe you can spread the word that (at least from B&N) the rest of the world is not welcome there and save other readers outside the continent from the same hassle.

Argh! It drives me nuts that borders still apply to the internet. I'll definitly mention it when I post about the new links. It's fun and games in Canada trying to get e-books from the States a lot of the time.

I know. At least it being out from Apple UK implies that it's not a publisher restriction (had one of those recently, none of the e-book places could serve it to Europe).

(I'm still giggling about a bit of the blurb above, though: "collection of heroic fantasy shorts" conjures up a very different picture -- what /does/ the typical fantasy hero wear under his kilt? *g*)

It's worse than that.

Initially, I was told that as long as your billing address was in the USA you could buy books for your Nook.

As I found out in Australia, this is wrong. If you access their site from an IP that shows as outside the US, you get the same thing. It lets you complete the order. It fails on fulfillment. I agree that it should flag the issue MUCH earlier in the process.
