So, we've been having a few discussions lately about the possibility of the Blood series (also known as the Victoria Nelson books, the Vicki/Henry/Mike books and as the series that really needs a series title...) being done as audio books ( Read more... )

If we have a choice of readers, I choose Barbara Rosenblat. She can do multiple voices convincingly, and is pleasant to listen to.

I love Barbara Rosenblat's readings of the Mrs. Polifax books.

And the Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody mysteries, and Sara Paretsky's V.I. Warshawski mysteries.

I like the *traditional* audio books, I find sound effects and multiple actors a bit distracting ;) (I love listening to audiobooks in the car, so distractions are not good)

I currently listen to a number of audiobooks and audio dramas

If you go with a single reader, you need to be sure they are the right reader, we are talking all your eggs in one basket. The positive is that the editing process is quicker, and if you do have the right reader you are all set. Some great examples are Christiana Ellis (no relation) or Nathan Lowell

If you go with audio drama, then you don't need to find a single performer who can do multiple characters well, but the editing process takes much longer. Some great examples are The Guild of the Cowry Catchers by Abigail Hilton or Leviathan Chronicles by Christof Laputka

While I know that you said "NOT the actors from the TV show" I think a single person read by One of the TV show actors might be might be the best choice.

Personally, I admit that a single reader, no matter how wonderful of an actor they are, tends to lose me in the storyline (guess I am an auditory ADD?)the only audiobooks that I do well with are actual dramatizations... and I find I also find them to be a lot more entertaining.

Tanya...any chance that if these do well that the Smoke books will follow the same path? (yes, this is that crazy little American who keeps begging for more Tony)

I'm really excited for the audiobook though... good luck with it!

I listen to TONS of audiobooks. (I was driving to another city for work.) I by far prefer one narrator. And to give you a better idea of my take on this, I'm a playwright, and I've listened to a lot of radio plays, but I find the multiple narrator thing with books irritating. One narrator seems to always work better - as long as it's a good narrator.
