House Update: Fun with Septic Systems

May 23, 2011 12:53

So a couple of people have asked how the house rebuild is going. For a while, all I had to say was, "We're still waiting to hear from the permit office." which tends to be more a tweet than an lj post. Now that we finally have heard from the permit office, well..

More than you ever wanted to know about septic systems. )

This takes me back to my childhood. I grew up on a tiny farm in rural Missouri. :)

Hope it ends up cheaper than you think it will.

Reminds me of dealing with our septic tank out in Colorado when I was a kid. The mother always told me not to play in the leach field. The dogs sure loved it, though! Now that I'm up in Calgary, we fortunately don't have to deal with such things, but I sure remember doing so from back then.

The weeping bed (leach field) has given us so little problem, we weren't sure where it was. Given how they built the rest of the house though, it's only a matter of time.

Your saga reminds me (in a not good way) of the saga of selling our house in WV. Where the septic system apparently needed to be re-permitted every 2 years or so. Which no one told us (hey, the one at my folks place has been working just fine for the last, oh, 30 years or so, and it wasn't like anything had changed in the 6 years we owned the place ( ... )

Which no one told us...

Apparently local governments assuming everyone follows every bylaw change is universal.

I'm so very sorry that you're having so many problems - though I have to say that it *does* make for entertaining reading! Here's hoping that you have clear sailing from here on out. Good luck!

I'm sorry you're running into these problems.

If you keep writing books, I'll keep buying them.
