Someone asked about living in Toronto and someone asked about living in the country. For those of you without cats who hunt, the spleeny bits are what's leftover. When you step on them, they go pop-squish.

Alas, Mr Pong's went out of business many years ago. For a while there, if you called the number listed in the phone book, a recorded message said the business was closed temporarily; never re-opened.

I still have not found any delivery that matches Mr Pong. (They used to deliver to the Toronto Islands!) Especially not for taste. *sigh*

Is sad they're gone. We still have one of their old magnets on the fridge.

There are, fortunately for me, ways to live in a city and still maintain quiet, sanity and ties to nature. I live in the "biggest little town", Baltimore, MD, where everyone knows everyone, eventually. I grew up on a farm though, and it took some getting used to when I first moved to Baltimore.

I have a rowhouse in a quiet neighborhood, with two parks nearby, a private backyard, and all the delivery food I can handle. And sushi in walking distance. While I sometimes miss the country, I don't know that I miss power outages, wonky well water, and no sushi on demand.

So far no wonky with the well water but the power outages -- and the high speed outages! -- are driving me nuts.

I grew up in Brockport a town that went from 8,000 to 16,000 when college was in session and my dad seemed to know everyone. Then I ended up in Rochester, a city with small town attitude. Everyone knew someone you knew. I have just moved to Allentown, PA for the new job and will have to see how these folk are. Miss you, miss the beloved. Be well.

Sounds a lot like where I live... ^_^ Okay, not as isolated (Germany simply isn't as big as Canada), but still in the country. With deer, owls, hawks and the mouse-bits that the cat doesn't eat.
I agree about the convenience of city life, but personally I can live with traveling by train (a little over an hour) to work and longer ways to the next shopping mall in exchange for the quiet and the woods when I get home.

It was great to learn that you based the apartments and places in your stories/books on actual places, I love info like that. ^_^

The ghost story at UofT in Gate of Darkness, Circle of Light is also true. In that it exists as a ghost story in the real world, not necessarily that it's a true story.

Actually, I know where you live - because I lived in the bigger town for a while, and I was told - but I agree, yours is gorgeous.

The town itself, not so pretty. But where I am? Lovely. Most of the time. :)
