As for the journalists, all they care about is getting the best story, or the first story, or the most horrific photographs. Some have deluded themselves that getting the truth out to the public helps just as much as the medics trying to save lives, but I think for the most part they just want the money and/or recognition. As for the aid groups, there are some popping up out of nowhere now trying to raise money for humanitarian efforts in the 12 affected countries. No matter that they don't have any experience in the field, no contacts in the region and with various governments, etc. This is why I've been telling people to forget the rest... give to UNICEF or the IRC. With all these aid agencies vying for the same supplies, etc. it is going to raise the price of those supplies thus diminishing the ability of ALL aid agencies to do any good. But, does anyone bother thinking about that logic? NO!
I feel like Cassandra... cursed to always tell the truth but never to be believed.
