I am intensely frustrated at the aid efforts -- and in some cases, the lack thereof -- in Asia. There are so many different agencies and only a handful have previous experience and contacts in the region. So, while their intentions are doubtlessly sincere their effectiveness is likely to be sincerely limited. Now, if we coulg get all these agencies to actually WORK TOGETHER (Oh, my gods! What a concept!!!) they could really accomplish something spectacular. I don't care if it's under the direction of UNICEF, the International Red Cross or whoever... Just get TOGETHER!
Oh, and these journalists are pissing me off, too. Seats on helicopters flying to towns and villages desperately in need of help are being bought up by journalists. Some flights have not had a single aid worker as they were all outbid by the press. WTF is up with that? Yes, the world wants to know about what's going on but getting a 'scoop' really worth risking human lives?
And all credit to the Australian Army medical corps who are out there setting up makeshift hospitals to treat the countless wounded. Each helicopter carrying food and other aid supplies is returning carrying the injured.
