I'm frankly sick and tired of hearing how it's the end of the world any time the power balance in Washington changes. If it changes to the Democrats, all the right-wingers get all up in arms. If it changes to the Republicans, all the left-wingers start making plans to move to Canada or some shit. I'm stuck in the middle, a Socially Liberal Fiscal

the change in the power balance in Washington doesn't frighten me, much. the shift in the power balance in Lansing scares the living shit out of me. sure, i'm biased, and fully admit that i'm a liberal with a socialist bent. my livelihood really does depend upon decisions that are made in Lansing. library law and more general election & state laws impact voted millages (our legislature just loves tax capture!), but for penal fines (which are part of the state constitution - i'm very very happy that the constitutional convention was nixed) and for state aid to libraries (currently in the dept. of ed but who knows where libraries will end up next.) state dollars allocated for public libraries on the state level impact our ability to get matching federal dollars, and when the folks that want to cut cut cut get into power, i get scared. really scared
