I'm frankly sick and tired of hearing how it's the end of the world any time the power balance in Washington changes. If it changes to the Democrats, all the right-wingers get all up in arms. If it changes to the Republicans, all the left-wingers start making plans to move to Canada or some shit. I'm stuck in the middle, a Socially Liberal Fiscal Conservative. I can't go anywhere, so I just make the best of it.
Look:
Conservatives: We had 8 years of Clinton, and we all got through it. (for that matter, we had 12 years of FDR, and the country survived)
Liberals: We had 8 years of GWB, and we're still around. (for that matter, we had 12 years of Reagan and GHWB, and the country survived)
There's an ebb and flow to politics. No one in Washington is thinking past their next re-election, so until we the people are ready to find candidates who actually are willing to look far into the future, and be the employees we really need, we're all just going to have to grin and bear it.
Really, how much worse can it get?
