I am not a fan of Kenshin/Misao but I enjoyed this very much.

Strangely, I don't think I've ever read it before, much less written it. Most of the RK fic I tend to read is either gen or Kaoru-centric nearly-gen. But somehow this plot idea made it make a strange kind of sense in my head. And really, I have wondered how Kenshin might have fared if Kaoru were actually dead and who would have had the patience and stubbornness to pull him out of his psychological breakdown.

I need to actually get around to reading RK fics, I haven't been willing to slog through the bad to get to the good and I know there has to be some good out there. (Preferably gen, but then I prefer gen on the whole.)

There actually are some very good fics out there, particularly if you like Gen. I can no longer remember how, but I stumbled on some random links at one point and found a few older writers who wrote some pretty thoughtful Bakumatsu stuff. It's been awhile since I read her, but Krista was actually the first author I read in RK and virtually all of her stuff is gen. I particularly recommend 'The Snow Raven[, although if you are violently anti-Tomoe, it might not be a good bet. She's here. Again, even though it does have Kenshin/Kaoru, I'd have to recommend "The Spy and the Hitokiri" by anna-neko, because this is a beautifully plotted and fully realized dark-fic, that is far more about characterization than romance. And that is here. Hmmm... Maybe I'll have to do an RK rec list at some point, particularly if other people are into gen.

Wow. Thank you ever so much, Naphy. I haven't read much RK fic, but part of it stems from my being one of those weirdos in this fandom who isn't into Aoshi/Misao or Kenshin/Kaoru by any means. And fic fic? I don't know where to start. It's all just jdfsdklfjdsklfjdsflj sdlvkjdklf ♥.

Although, as I mentioned to MsCongeniality, I tend mainly to read gen or Kaoru-gen (or, actually, Bakumatsu and pre-Bakumatsu gen), my secret, guilty pairing loves in RK are Kaoru/Aoshi and Kaoru/Saitou. It's not easy to find non-'canon' pairings, I know. I could try to have a look for you, but I haven't had much luck myself. Hence the gen :) Although, even though it's a canon-pairing, I really do like "The Hitokiri and the Spy' that I recced on the alt-reality rec list. It's one of the darkest ones I've come across, which surprises me since RK has so much fun, dark-fic potential. But that's an entirely different rant :)

I really did enjoy the opportunity to write this though- the plot bunny ate my brain :)

It's all just jdfsdklfjdsklfjdsflj sdlvkjdklf

Er... That's a good thing? I hope?

I can probably count on two hands the number of RK fics I've read. Partly, I don't really know where to find good genfic. I keep forgetting about that AR you recced, so thanks for the reminder.

Plot bunnies eating the brain would be good in this situation. ^_^

Er... That's a good thing? I hope?

Hahaha. Keysmash is a habit I've developed over the past year, particularly the last seven months. It's like, you find yourself unable to express in proper words just how strongly you feel about something, so you just keysmash. In this case it's very positive, although one can keysmash out of frustration.

Is it too late to ask for a Ranma/Inuyasha xover? Or maybe even a Yasha/Naruto one.. the love for ramen in common runs rampant :p

Er... -Shuffles sheepishly- I probably owe you another one, but here's the Inuyasha/Naruto cross. I am very, very sorry.
