well, theoretically americans know more about it by, like, living here. there is really no reason for brits to know. not that i'm saying americans do know; just that they've got more of a reason to be expected to.

I agree about the name thing. It's always weirded me out a bit. My dad is a high school teacher, so everyone in my high school knew who I was and called me by name (they still do it) or "Hey, Mr. Noel's daughter!" ...when most of the time, I had never seen them before.

i would mind much less for the latter. though in some ways i am used to not knowing the names of people who know mine, because i have a long tradition of, apparently, not knowing those around me.
