Regarding the drinking apology link...God, where do you find these things. Will have to bookmark it when I'm back on the personal laptop.

As for the "wtf," that's an old argument and I've heard it before and I still don't agree with it. I realize we encourage independent thinking but honestly, he's a justice of the peace, not a minister! Secular thinking cap on! If the couple's willing to take the risks, say the words and you can mentally scorn them all you want.

i've got a cousin who subscribes to it. As a mixed-heritage child, i can attest to it really being pretty awesome instead of horrible and awful. so there.
and yes, this! it is your frickin job to marry people. You don't get to say 'no, i won't marry you' because you work for the government. religious institutions are a different matter.
