Fanfic Pet-peeves & Reasons My Flist Rocks

So. I have a really bad habit of reading a book until I pass out or finish it. Not such a good thing when you have work to do in the morning. So no book for me. I figured a few short fanfic stories would fill the void, so I was trolling for some fanfic to wind down with for the evening. Big mistake.

Can I just echo ALL your fanfic pet peeves??? Because seriously all the same things drive me batshit crazy. I mean HELLO!!! When in doubt, ASK SOMEBODY!! And that goes for characters' names, if something is OOC for a character, grammar, spelling...ALL OF IT!!!

And on the subject of OOC...when in serious doubt, DON'T!

Luckily, all of my flist is good about not doing these things...THANKFULLY!!!

::laughs:: I did spell a character's name wrong in a fic. And I almost didn't get the fic betaread! Fortunately, my last-minute beta (maybe lovellama?) pointed out that it's Janet Fraiser not Frasier.

Obviously you know about me and spelling and grammar.

Well, that's one most of us wouldn't catch. It's the glaringly obvious ones that kill me, like 'Tayla.'

Hee! I almost wrote, "Have you met marag?" as part of the post.

::giggle:: I miss writing as Ms. Grammatica :) I'm driven especially insane by things that spell-check would catch. Dude, spell-check is right there.

Can I add obvious and REALLY sad Mary Sue fics to the list? Occasionally the writer manages to shape themselves into a compelling character, but that's so rare. Even more painful is the totally implausible and lame ways of forcing said Mary Sue into the picture. Jeez...
