Funny how FAKE is more realistic than other BL manga...

I'm not sure why, but I've had FAKE on my mind recently. I don't remember accidentally coming across something concerning it or anything. It's just popped up in my thoughts for no reason. Not that I'm complaining.

Anyway, I've heard of a side-story called "Like, Like, Love" a few times before, but had never read it. It's an extra act that takes ( Read more... )

People don't like the FAKE art style because the men actually look like men. Yaoi fangirls simply cannot handle not having their pseudo-lesbian prettyboys.

Point. They expect everything to be like it is in their beloved Gravitation. *gag*

I like FAKE for exactly that reason, though. They actually look and act like men. And the "uke" (I use the term loosely, 'cause Ryo isn't really the uke type) has a strong personality and doesn't have to hide behind his seme when things get rough. Hell, he's beaten Dee up a few times. :P

I can't speak as an art expert, but my only gripe with the FAKE art is how the artist draws the characters' faces. Not the physical structure of them, mind you, just the faces themselves. They seem...disproportionate to the head. The eyes in particular kind of clash with the otherwise realistic look the series has.

(Not ratting on the series itself here, just tossing in my two cents on that particular front.)

I like it, myself. I'll have to get used to the new style in the sequal series (assuming it ever gets here), but I like Matou-sensei's art. I think it's pretty. :D
