I'm also trying to write reviews right after I read books, because otherwise things start to go fuzzy and my reviews end up being 'It was awesome! You should read it too!' I haven't quite succeeded, but ( Read more... )

On Watchmen.

So was the evil guy really evil or did they all end up being evil at the end? My morality is confused.

Haha, who are you calling the 'evil guy'? Adrian Veidt? I think Watchmen is particularly interesting because I don't think you can really call anyone 'evil' (or 'good' for that matter). Veidt/Ozymandias did horrible things, but he did them to produce a positive outcome. The other heros wanted to stop the horrible things he was planning, but I think they kept silent at the end because they realized that good things were actually coming out of it.

Though I hear the movie ending is rather different. I'm curious/afraid . . .

From that angle then WWI and WWII had a positive outcome for reducing global population and bringing forth advances in technology and medicine. Should we pursue more large scale wars too? I'm telling you! it's confusing! I guess that's what makes it brilliant.

If they dare make the ending any less controversial I shall mentally spit in their faces.

It's kind of disturbing but you can argue for positive elements to almost anything. And I think it's important to point out how things are never totally bad/good (though I think what Ozymandias did was heinous and overreaching) because way too often people look at things as black and white.

Have you seen it yet? What do you think?
