Merlin Fanfic Fangirling

So, somewhere in my "kinda-want-to-avoid-TH-for-awhile" reversion back to H/D fandom, I stumbled across a few journals of people who  have happened to become Merlin/Arthur fans too. . . and found lots of really good Merlin fic...

I have quite a few tabs open, awaiting my reading pleasure, but I thought I'd rec while I was at it, since I know several

Oh, Merlin fic! I definitely want to check some of those out, thanks for the recs! :D

You know... I just don't think I will ever fully get back into TH fanfic again. With H/D still a somewhat new discovery there is so much to read, and while I still love and adore the band, unless I'm doing beta for a friend, I just don't read TH fanfic at all anymore--it doesn't hold my interest. It makes me a little sad, but I was also sad when I got bored of X-Files, LOTR and Vigorli fic, too! ;)

Every once in awhile, I wanna read TH, but the problem is that 1) I have no patience for WIPs or updating-once-a-week (or less), and 2) it's hard to find stuff that's *good*. I have a couple by friends that I still need to read, but I just don't have the desire to do so yet.

And heck, H/D isn't a new discovery for me, I've been reading it since college, but there's so *much* of it, there's still tons out there. I've really read very little Merlin, comparably, so this has been fun :D

I have the same problem with WIPs--so many promising fics get abandoned about 15 chapters in! And the lack of quality fic is frustrating. I am constantly amazed at the interesting, unique and intelligent storylines in the HP fandom! And since I'm so late in the game, there are hundreds of quality finished stories. It's like a dream! lol

There seems to be more possibilities with HP fic--there is Hogwarts era and Post Hogwarts (my personal favorite) dozens of characters to work with, a long history to draw from and MAGIC. <3 And Harry & Draco have such an interesting dynamic. So much wonderful angst! <3 And magical creature fic! Veela, vampires, werewolves....

My problem with TH fandom is also that I'm only interested in the twins paired together, related or not. More and more I prefer them not, but you can only create so many scenarios. I've read one kink fic and that's it. And I feel bad, because several of my friends are writing it and I KNOW it's good stuff, but I can't seem to get interested in it.

Yep. And while I can forgive a lot of editorial stuff if the plot and characterizations are good, it's usually a total wash with TH, while with H/D (and, I'm finding, A/M), it's completely bearable b/c the character and/or plot are there. Isn't it nice to find a nice, long, juicy fic that you don't have to wait for at all? Or a well-constructed oneshot that's completely satisfying in and of itself? (I've noticed that the well-constructed oneshots are almost nonexistent in TH
