Chapter 18, part 2

The car slowed again, more noticeably, and then suddenly we screeched to a stop on the shoulder of the highway. I flew against the harness, and then slammed back into the seat.

"There are no options," Edward hissed.

"I'm not leaving Charlie!" I yelled.

He ignored me completely. Edward is such a bastard; I love how he only makes an ( Read more... )

Oh my God, I've known for a while what a fucking asshole Edward is, but this just reminds me and highlights it even more. Great commentary!

That's right, Bella--you are Edward's property. You do what he says and mind him like a good girl because he always knows what's best--because he is your boyfriend, and he owns you. He is the male, and you are the weak, mindless female. Remember that.

It just galls me to think of the message this sends impressionable teenage girls: let your boyfriend completely dominate you because men are superior to women. Women are brainless and weak and deserve no respect. They cannot stand alone without a man to totally control them.

Your preaching to the choir, hon.
And this is exactly the message of Twilight.

Oh I'm Edward so much that I feel like introducing my favorite brick with his head!

JEEZ louise! If young girls want to see a love relationship between a human and a vampire *tosses Buffy dvd's at them* and there are TWO vampire's you get to choose from you ninnies! not that i'm promoting Spuffy cause I'm a BuffyAngel die hard fan AND its pro-feminism to boot!

This is just....headdesk worthy. Remind me again why girls are fawning over Edward? Other than Robert?

He's sexy and "dangerous," that's really it. I really do think Rob is hot, personally, just not in Twilight. He looks like he's about to rape you, and that's not at all appealing.
::putsfistuptobump:: I don't like the B/S either ;)

I remember that even when I was reading this book (and liked it! :() I was a little concerned with Edward's behavior.

It made me put down the book for a day, and made me feel disgusted with him. Ick. It made the rest of the book uncomfortable to read.

I've been reading and re-reading your commentary, and it's amazing. Really, really great. And for a logic loop-around, I like the series, but yet, agree with almost every point you've made. Keep posting, though, and I'll keep reading.

This commentary, while clearly hilarious, offers a unique perspective into the demographic it was intended to impress. Pray continue.
