Self-indulgent musing about number of fics.

On AO3 I have 34 fics, one of which is in progress (Only Truth) and one of which (MtS) will likely not be finished, especially now that "The Search" for Zuko's mother will be published soon and Azula will be part of that. A good chunk of those are 500 words or less, so it's not that impressive.

How many do you have squirreled away in a folder, languishing there, never to see the light of day?

SO MANY I CHOOSE NOT TO COUNT THEM. Lots of attempts at long and complex stories, but I don't have a beta for the Avatar-verse, and I have trouble writing that kind of thing in isolation.

And a growing number of stories that, to borrow your phrase, aren't going to be interesting or thought-provoking. (Occasionally I end up finishing and posting them anyway, and readers either find something worthwhile that I didn't expect, or they're at least forgiving of my self-indulgence.)

Oh, and there's one fic that's on hold until such a time as I can learn archery (...September! With luck!) because I'm having trouble getting my brain around certain physical skills, but the fic really lacks something without that detail.

Too many to count for me too. Luckily none that are Avatar related...yet. Some classic Dr. Who, Blake's 7, Zorro, some Red Dwarf and Highlander/Stargate crossover stuff I've done with a friend that I'm not sure I'll ever get finished, a scene of which I've been looking for for a while I finally found again last night. Even a couple Transformers ones I'm not sure I'll finish.

Btw, Lizabee what are your archery questions. I'm no expert but I've recently retaken up ther bow myself, so perhaps I can help. (Can I also just say how jealous I am that you seem to have gotten your hands on an advanced copy of Captain Vorpatril's Alliance.)

Ah, the Unwritten. For me there's that story idea about parallels between Zuko and Kuei inspired by one of fairladyz2005's stories, and the Mai/Zuko/Toph outline I'd shown you. That latter idea didn't work too well because I couldn't think of a compelling enough reason for Toph to marry Zuko. Maybe someone else like Kori would work better. There's also the Kataang "bridenapping" story, which I have to work out some details of. There are also a bunch of half-formed ideas for Ty Lee stories, because writing Ty Lee is always fun. The latest Ty Lee story is one with Kuei, it seems I have him a lot on my brain.

Also, this post reminded me that I'd forgotten to post your author profile to avatar_fans, something I remedied.

Actually, I don't have many unpublished fics. I have one short-story work in progress that's an adaptation of that Valkyrie movie into the ATLA universe where people try to bomb Azula, and a few unpublished short stories that I didn't share because they were lame or two short to bother with, but otherwise stuff lives in my head until I'm ready to really commit to it.

I do wonder what the next generation of Literary History will look like. Will scholars just browse the next William Shakespeare's thumb drive?
