In many ways the analogue is a poor one. I mean, at least the Communists had some idea of what they thought government should look like, even though it was a terrible one. I said this in the Capslock Atla comm but for all that I agree with the Equalists' grievances, they're not actually offering any solutions other than mindless hatred and revenge. Has any one of them decided what alternative political system they'd want? Do they want the ability to choose Councilpeople instead of having them chosen by the outside nations? Do they want to join the police? What do they want?
I mean, I know Amon has a plan which involves eliminating bending and will ultimately show What An Evil Person He Is but that doesn't offer much in the way of system of government. I think that's where Korra will need to really be an Avatar, where "bringing balance" will come into play.
He's Starscream in Transformers: Prime (yes, we watch a lot of cartoons in my house). Starscream is a whiny tool, but Amon is awesome. I'm impressed at Blum's range.
I think Amon is a necessary force at the moment, since it does seem both that the Republic City government and jobs system systematically oppresses non-benders, but I'm still willing to bet that Amon himself is a complete liar and nutjob grabbing for power. You know, like Mao. Him winning would just be disastrous for his own people. Not sure when the genocide would start, but I honestly wouldn't bet against him starting before his revolution even finished
