“A society where people are respectful enough of personal space that they don't touch or breathe on one another is the one i want to live in.“

So true. This is the part of covid that I hope we get to keep.

I’m glad you arrived safely. It’s fascinating to me to hear the details of these apps and quarantine processes. All the “how stuff is done, in other places” is so necessary, because so much is changing and we all need to learn what works.

Also, I love your descriptions. The “shabby, mossy, rusted-out look” is exactly how Taiwan looked to me, the short time that I was there. It was unique in my experience, and I really look forward to your stories there.

Just wanted to say thank you for being a person who believes in science, and follows public health laws meant to help us all. I hope Taiwan is everything you want it to be.

Nutella and cheese though? Crusts cut off? WTF?

And yes, milk tea is fucking gross.

I have to admit i'm not much of a fan of the "believe science" catchphrase. Science isn't something that is a choice to believe or not, like religion, or other humanistic ideas. Science is just a method for observing the world around us and coming to conclusions based on testing and evidence. It's absurd to not "believe science ( ... )

"It shouldn't be considered special just to accept that people who know more about a thing than you do probably have better advice "

That literally is my point. People who have studied something extensively are likely better prepared to give good advice, and you listened and followed it. It's a rarity now. It's becoming more rare as the days go by when literally a large part of the population (US speaking of course) is turning its back on experts. It's to the demise of us all.

Accept a kudos ok.

loool I love milk tea and had some today from H Mart.

The process sounds quite smooth! It reminds me of my return to Japan last year, only quarantining cost a ton, plus I had to spend hundreds of dollars on a special taxi that wasn't really a taxi, even though I then had to waltz into a convenience store to pick up my apartment key for the place I rented, never mind I had been sitting in a public area in the airport waiting for my ride... I had to check in with an app daily but it would have been easy enough to break quarantine after a couple of days, since the pattern of notifications becomes clear. I never interacted with a human on that designed daily check in app either. Taiwan seems to have a more effective system. I guess I'm surprised they're still that strict/thorough at this point.

Anyway, I miss Taiwan now. I'm glad everything went well and that you have a new start in a place you want to be!

Taiwan's system is really good. I saw some social media posts during the time when they were still doing 14 day and it was good back then too. I really don't think it needs to be difficult, i think Taiwan put these measures in during original SARS and now all the infrastructure is already there. It just needs some investment and forward-thinking government.

I hope soon the quarantine restrictions will be lifted more and then perhaps you can visit again ☺️
