sting, cyberpunk and standing on the edge of the night

You said it right, I miss traveling and the feeling of exploring a new city, figuring out the local public transportation or little side streets and new foods. It will happen again, but damn if I don't feel the loss right now.

Yup.

I also love your descriptions of the 80’s future, and also the 90’s internet. I was there for that, and yet I don’t step back and assess, so I’m glad you have. It’s good to have that pointed out.

I always like to hear different people's views of the 80s or 90s, since even though there are some high level common threads, i think a lot of our experiences of an era are related to our age and interests at the time ( ... )

I've been utterly fascinated by how Reddit has brought back a mostly text-based discussion mode, and brought back a lot of the anonymity of Usenet without it being as much of a disaster as Twitter is.

I don't have a Reddit account but i do poke my head in there from time to time, and it is pretty cool how anonymous it feels. It's not quite as anonymous as usenet because people can click on a user and track their history, but i suppose there's nothing stopping you from setting up multiple accounts. Human moderators keep it relatively civil, just as it was on the moderated newsgroups. Personally i much prefer that kind of anonymous conversation. It feels more true to the original spirit of "cyberspace".
