biking around Kamloops with a bumped head

Aug 23, 2020 18:06

I was going to go out for a quick bike ride today, but something very strange and alarming just happened. The world started closing in and i went into an odd déjà vu state, like i was very high on drugs, then i went to the bathroom and sat on the toilet and i couldn't breathe. I tried to get air into my lungs but it wasn't enough, then i blacked ( Read more... )

Had you been drinking before it happened? Could this have been an alcoholic blackout ? I say this with respect and concern.

I had been drinking the night before, but this happened in the morning! That's why it was so scary. If it had been directly connected to drug or alcohol use i would've still been alarmed (since i hope never to be that heavy of a user) but at least i would've felt it was justified. I guess it is possible, though, that it was a general dehydration issue. Fortunately, i am feeling better now.

I hope you're feeling better today - no more episodes.

Love your writing about your life and your thoughts about life....

Concussion is odd, when I had it, I ended up in bed for 3-4 days unable to eat, and the aftereffects went on for months. Even if you've lightly rattled your head, what with dehydration and exertion it might have been a bit too much!

Take it easy, monitor yourself. Unfortunately, only a scan would let you know for sure if you are badly bumped.

I grew up next to a main line, my mother is still there and my bedroom shakes when the express thunders past. I didn't notice it much when I was growing up, but it is irritating now. And they ALWAYS do noisy track maintenance all night long when you have to be fresh the next day... such as for an exam. That is and was always annoying.

It's interesting, i find heavy machinery (especially if it rocks the house) makes me feel comforted. The sounds that really annoy me are piledrivers, angle grinders and other high-pitched noises. In the suburbs that usually means dogs, babies and lawnmowers. I fucking hate dogs, babies and lawnmowers and do not understand how anyone chooses to live with them. Give me a freight train shunting anyday.

I've never knowingly had a concussion before and i'm not sure if this was it. It was very odd, though, i spent a couple days really "out of it", bit of headache and worry that the other shoe was going to drop. I wonder now if it might have been dehydration? Anyway, it's been a few days and i am feeling better, so that's good.

photos are gorgeous (and so different from your china pics), losing consciousness is scary! i agree with everyone else that you should definitely take it easy, and if it's possible (like, what kind of medical care do you qualify for?), maybe go to a clinic or something so someone can just check you over to make sure it isn't serious.

i think trains would be too noisy for me to live near, but something about them is very comforting and kind of romantic.

If i stay in BC for 3 months, then i qualify for provincial healthcare - but i have to prove that i lived here for 3 months (and promise them i intend to stay for at least 6 months). Canadian healthcare is really fantastic, but it's strongly tied to residence, so it's not so great for travelers - even Canadian travelers.
