biking around Kamloops with a bumped head

Aug 23, 2020 18:06

I was going to go out for a quick bike ride today, but something very strange and alarming just happened. The world started closing in and i went into an odd déjà vu state, like i was very high on drugs, then i went to the bathroom and sat on the toilet and i couldn't breathe. I tried to get air into my lungs but it wasn't enough, then i blacked ( Read more... )

I'm no medical expert but it sounds like you may indeed have concussed yesterday. Do take it easy for a few days.

Me too! The side benefit of bumping my head was that i didn't foolhardishly head out again the next day, so it gave me a bit of energy to post 🤣

Maybe you should see someone about that episode. It sounds really frightening. In any case taking it easy for a bit sounds like the right thing to do.
I lived on Brooklyn for a few years and the elevated train was just outside the front of the building. Maybe 20feet distance. The trains weren't long but they were pretty constant. The J, M ,and Z lines. At one point to do some repairs they shut it down for a weekend. It was awful. It was like going around just waiting for the other shoe to drop without knowing it. On the Sunday night that the first train ran through again it was such a relief! Lol

I lived opposite the Yonge line subway yard in Toronto for a while. They don't run 24 hours so the sounds would often mostly be in the morning and evening when they stored the cars overnight. You could definitely tell the difference on Sundays (reduced operations), though. It builds a sort of comfortable rhythm to city life, different to living by a road.

Out of everything in NYC I think it's trains I miss the most.

Oh ugh, that sounds scary. I think you might be right with the dehydration suspicion... very probable! Also, low blood pressure. A day of total relax really sounds what the doctor would order!

Low blood pressure is a very good call. One thing i have found when i did physicals for immigration is that i often have low blood pressure and low heartrate by default. I imagine that means drinking alcohol is more dangerous for me and i need to pay more attention to my water.

Usually i go on my adventures with about 2 liters of water, but i think living in a place as dry as this i need to up it to 4. One thing i tend to do is limit my water intake until i feel like i am about halfway through an out-and-back hike, so that i know i will always have enough for getting home, but i'm thinking that might not be such a good idea, especially since the hottest part (both time of day and with regard to excursion) is going out.
