Eerie. Excellent portrayal of the father, I was totally sucked in by the feeling that "hey, something just ain't right with that little boy," and then I got it and WHAM. Wonder what happened to him before? The reference to the mother...
Also, the descriptions of the other kids reminded me to go reread The Playground by Ray Bradbury. Which is always a good sign.
