In May 2011 my cat Puppy, aka The Vile Beast, was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, a chronic condition that is fatal if untreated.
In hyperthyroid cats, excess thyroid hormone produced by the cat’s thyroid tumor speeds up most chemical reactions in the body, causing multiple clinical signs. These include weight loss despite an increased appetite, nervousness, increased activity, rapid and pounding heartbeat, increased thirst, matted fur, and shedding. Over time, this disease relentlessly takes its toll on body organs, including the heart, kidneys, and liver. (Hypurrrcat Clinic)
Puppy before hyperthyroidism:
Sept 2010, pre-hyperT
Puppy experienced the majority of these symptoms prior to diagnosis, including loss of almost half her body weight, increased heart rate, lack of appetite, and hyperactivity. She is currently on medication, but the medication comes with side effects including risk to her kidneys and potential damage to her stomach. On her second blood test, her kidney numbers were already up. Medication is also for life, and with Puppy a fairly young cat to have hyperthyroidism, that will add up over the years both financially and in the toll it takes on her, which will ultimately lead to a shortened lifespan.

Radioiodine is a permanent treatment proven to cure hyperthyroidism. The Hypurrrcat Clinic specializes in this procedure. It involves a single shot and then a five day stay at the clinic so nurses and veterinarians can ensure that the cat doesn't turn into a radioactive superhero. Puppy has an appointment August 7th to have the treatment. The cost is $1850. With this dollar drive, I'm hoping to meet some of that cost.
Details:
1. Offers and bids/purchases are open from today, July 24, to Sunday July 31.
2. All offers should be completed by Aug 7, unless other arrangements are made between offerer and donor.
3. Offers may be in the form of a set number of items on a first come first served basis OR as an auction conducted within the item's thread, for which the item goes to the highest bidder(s) at the offerer's discretion.
4. In keeping with LJ's rules, please don't offer anything illegal.
5. If you win an item, please send the offerer proof of your donation. You do not need to send me proof because I'll get the Paypal notification automatically. Remember to put your LJ name in the note on the Paypal donation.
6. If you want to donate without taking an offer, please do.
7. This is a multi-fandom, multi-format, original works, any darn thing you want dollar drive. Cat-related items especially welcome.
Everyone who participates as offerer, donor, or via pimping this on your LJ or fannish Twitter account will receive the URL to Puppy's webcam at Hypurrrcat Clinic and be able to watch her as she recuperates in her "Kitty Condo" for five days.

ETA: 7/28. Like many, I haven't been able to update in days, so hopefully it will work now. I'm amazed and so grateful for what you guys are doing. I never expected such an outpouring of love for both me and The Vile Beast. I know we can make the total. But in order to do that, we have to keep getting the word out. Remember if you pimp, you get access to the kitty cam, too, but be sure to tell me if you did by signing in at this thread.
