The first one is a masterpiece. The second is a bad impersonation of the first. The third is a Lethal Weapon movie with different characters. The fourth is just god awful, and every copy of it should be burned.

All four of them are at least okay. The first one is the best, the second one is a rehash but there are some good parts, the third has a great plot twist and an excellent car chase but the ending is weak, and I thought the fourth one was the best action movie in a long time.

Everyone seems to hate this, but I was greatly amused that John McClane had become indestructible. It's ironic that when the first one came out in the 1980s, it put McClane up against various Arnold and Sly pics where they played bulletproof all-American heroes, but by 2007, when every action star has to have a tortured soul and a human side, John McClane gets to be a throwback to unstoppable ass-kickery. It's ridiculous, sure, but Bruce Willis can sell me on anything. And you gotta give Len Wiseman credit for flinging a real car into a real helicopter, among other stellar non-CG stuntwork (the only major exception is the jet bit near the end, and even then mainly just the part when John is on top of it).

Timothy Olyphant sucks though.
