LOOPHOLES

So, we all know about how I got these ridiculous warrants for that motorcycle accident?  And how I discovered them by being pulled over for an expired inspection sticker?  What I neglected to post was a follow up.  I posted bail for the motorcycle tickets and was scheduled for an October 25 court date.

As everyone knows, Matt and I are very ( Read more... )

Wow, filing away a court date/ticket? That's crazy. Files are, for me and many people, for archival purposes. I guess if you deal with tons of different people and companies and such, you would have to file things away until you needed them again, but that's never my home situation.

Right, but my question is, how does he keep things in mind? Like, say it had been his ticket. And he'd put it in the legal file. What would make him remember that he had to do something about it at or before the appointed time? Is that kept separately? Put on a calendar or in Outlook or something? I don't keep any such thing (I used to use my Google calendar regularly, but I stopped).

I have NO IDEA how he would keep things in mind. Hmmm, let me think. How did he deal with his recent traffic ticket? Oh wait! I kept reminding him! Matt, having you taken defensive driving yet? No.... Matt, have you taken defensive driving yet? No... Matt, you need to finish defensive driving this weekend. Then, Matt, did you turn in your paperwork for defensive driving yet? No... Matt, did you turn in your paperwork yet? No...

Heh. I need a me to keep me in line.

I hope Loophole #1 works to your advantage. I'm with you on the organizational system! Well, mostly. If something is filed away, I will never see it again, look for it again, or anything. If something is placed in a pile, I will EVENTUALLY look at it again, but it will probably not be until I have to do some sort of massive cleaning, which tends to be only a few times a year. Bills usually get put in piles. It's a good thing

For me to actually do something, it needs to be by itself and in a place it clearly doesn't belong. Then it will annoy me enough that I either a) take care of it or b) put it in a pile. God help me if it gets filed.

Oh, and Loophole #2? Simply awesome. You totally win on that one.

I'm a pile person. I keep everything in piles, but I always know exactly where everything is and where to get to it and when it's due. In fact, I even remember that when they scheduled me for that court date something was nagging at me in the back of my mind that something wasn't quite right about that date... but I couldn't remember what it was...

I find filing to be totally useless! Except in emails, because emails are searchable. Files are not. I can't go through a file quickly. As David says above, files are soley archival for me.

Yesssssss, no one in my office could understand why I was jumping around and telling total strangers "DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN BUY GIFT CARDS WITH GIFT CARDS!?!?!?!"

well, clearly the breakdown is that someone else is placing their grubby paws on your items. ;)

i'm intrigued by the gift cards from gift cards issue - what's to stop some maniac from buying the next gift card with the previous gift card, resulting in a mountain of depleted plastic? is there, perhaps, money laundering potential here?

NO...you can't seriously buy gift cards using gift cards? I just simply don't believe it!

(am currently home. burst out laughing reading that while my mom and grandma were watching some crime movie dealing with a serial killer. they wondered what was so funny)
