Summary: It was late -- past midnight now.

Luna was lying in her bed, trying to sleep when her coin grew hot. It wasn't something she chose to ignore. She knew Harry would only call on the D.A. if it was really needed. He normally chose to work alone these days. But when her coin grew hot, she crawled out of bed and left her dorm.

Neville was coming from the direction of the Gryffindor tower, and she smiled at him, waving slightly. He nodded at her, holding up his coin. She held up her own.

Together, silently, they headed out to the grounds of Hogswarts. It wasn't specific as to where they needed to help, but she heard the fight starting and just following the noise.

It was late - past midnight now.

Luna looked up at the Astronomy tower and saw the blinding green light. She had no clue who was up there and who had just lost their life, but she felt a pang of sadness despite her ignorance.

Rushing over to the battle, she raised her wand. She was almost used to fighting these days. She had fought in the Department of Mysteries battle and it haunted her. The fight, the determination, the urge to protect she felt.

When three people came running out of the castle a few minutes later, she wanted to stop fighting. Harry ran toward Hagrid as Draco Malfoy and Severus Snape ran toward the Forbidden Forest. Hexes, curses, and spells still flew from Harry and Snape's wands, but none of them hit their mark. She couldn't hear what they were yelling from her place. She was too far away, but the feeling in the air was heavy.

Scanning the grounds, as she shot off another spell at a Death Eater, she locked eyes with Draco. The man had always intrigued her. He seemed wise beyond his years, and not evil in the slightest. He seemed lost like a little boy who was trying to find his way home. She wanted to be that person to show him his way home. But he jerked his grey gaze away from hers before she could convey her ignorant belief in him and ran in the forest.

A moment later he was swallowed into the darkness and Luna felt lost herself. Just within her hearing range, she could hear Harry telling Hagrid Snape had murdered Headmaster Dumbeldore. Luna shook her head. She couldn't believe it. She wouldn't believe that Draco had anything to do with that. Snape was the murdered, not Draco. Harry said it.

Her eyes drifted to the forest and stared at the last place she had seen Draco. She had to force herself not to try to follow Draco. He was a lost little boy, and she wondered how going into the Forbidden Forest that no one knew well could help him find his way.

Once upon a midnight dreary, Luna Lovegood knew that she couldn't just forget Draco Malfoy.
