July 2: Dinner somewhere. I would love to begin our jaunt by having a Ricard aperitif at Pastis in the Meatpacking District (that is what I did when I arrived in NYC for my b-day 2 years ago; it could become a tradition ( Read more... )

I've walked past Pastis several times on my way to Macelleria (just kitty-corner-ish). It'd be nice to try it out finally.

Not so sure about spending hundreds for a glass of single-malt...just yet. A few more years and some well-placed investments, and I'd be tempted.

Y'all are on your own on the 5th (I'll be at work), and though I'm still a newbie to NYC, I'll see what else I can dig up for you to do/see...though you seem to be figuring it out for yourselves just fine!

They said they have plenty of whiskies that are cheap. You don't have to spend that much. And I only want to go to Pastis for drinks. I'll have to think about where we can eat.

You should squeeze in a visit out to the deep, dark, wilds of Brooklyn and come to my store.

A mere one block from the last stop on the 2 train in Brooklyn, Flatbush Ave./Brooklyn College. Have you a subway map?

Here's a map of the system. I'll email you my number so you can call for better directions when you get lost.

You could always consider doing July 4th at the site of 9/11. Probably less festive, but it's likely they'd have a small memorial service.

Yeah, that really doesn't sound festive at all. Call me self-centered, but I'd rather celebrate my b-day than the nation's.
