"It's not pining, it's passed on. This parrot is no more. It has ceased to be. It's expired and gone to meet its maker. This is a late parrot. It's a stiff. Bereft of life, it rests in peace. If you hadn't nailed it to the perch, it would be pushing up the daisies. It's rung down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. This is an ex-parrot."
My only foray into buying cartons was the time I ordered six from Russia of all places. After shipping, the per pack cost was less than $2, but the cigarettes just weren't quite the same. They tasted different and were too loosely packed. Still, it was worth it to be able to show everybody the Russian tax stamp. If you store your cartons in the freezer they'll stay fresh for quite a while. Of course for those few weeks of plenty I smoked more than I ever had before.

Which movies? I know of LA Story and Dogtown & Z-Boys, but I can't think of any others.
No, the guy at the 7-11 is Pakistani, of course.
However, Venice is still Venice. As I sit in the window and write, I watch people talking on the phone and smoking as they go past on their bikes -- or on skateboard. There are a lot of skateboards in Venice. A lot of surfboards, too.
And Abbot-Kinney still has all the funky weird little shops. Like Abbot's Habit where I get my morning coffee -- with my fave sever who wears a t-shirt that says, NOTHING IS COOL. And Stroh's Gourmet where they actually sell illegal raw milk cheeses -- they have them shipped in from France and they pick them up directly from LAX.
