Fugitives - Heroes/DWP crossover! (1/4?)

Sep 20, 2010 20:51

Title: Someone You Care About (Fugitives 1/?)
Fandom: The Devil Wears Prada/Heroes
Rating/Genre: PG? for now/femslash-y, crossover
Characters/Pairing: Andy, Angela, Miranda, Danko-soldiers, “Rebel”. Hinted Andy/Miranda…
Summary: Andy hasn’t seen Miranda in a long time, but when her mother warns her that someone she knows is in danger, she goes to find her. It turns out other people want to find Miranda, too, and Andy reveals her ability.
Word count: 1000
Prompts: # 246 - Simple, # 249 - Attack, # 243 - Bright, # 247 - Complicated, for femslash100. Originally posted in four parts (one drabble of 250 words for each prompt) for Reminder Challenge # 250.
Spoilers/Warnings: No.
Notes: This will probably make more sense if you have some basic knowledge of both fandoms, but maybe it's readable anyway. :) In this AU, Andy is the youngest member of the Petrelli family. Sort of sequel to Loyalty, but for those of you who haven’t read it, this sums it up: Miranda questions Andy’s loyalty because she finds out that Sachs is not Andy’s real name, and Andy finds out that for some reason, Miranda knows and dislikes her mother Angela. (It can be seen as a prologue, I guess; there’s a timegap between the drabble and this fic.) Timeline for this fic: a year or two later after Andy left in Paris, and Heroes season 3. The next and longer chapters are Miranda’s pov (the story will be posted in four parts, I think - both part two and part three are already half-written).
Notes 2: The idea of Angela/Emily still remains on my wishlist, for anyone who wants to take it as a prompt…

Andy was going to see her former boss, because her mother had warned her the same morning: “Someone you care about is in danger. Tonight.”

Angela didn’t mention any names; she just looked at Andy as if she should understand.

Now she was having second thoughts. Why would this person be Miranda? If it was Miranda; why would her mother care? Judging by Miranda’s reaction the time she found out Andy’s real name, Andy figured that whatever had happened between the two women, they weren’t exactly good friends.

And Andy and Miranda weren’t exactly good friends either; not after Paris.

“What do you mean?”, she had asked, but her mother just shook her head.

“That’s all I can say.”

“But mom”, Andy tried, but Angela cut her off:

“I said: That’s all.”

So that’s one thing they’ve got in common, Andy thought as she entered the Elias Clarke building; it was late, but she had talked to Roy and knew that Miranda was still working.

And yet she hesitated when she entered the empty office. There was no one at her old place, or at Emily’s place. Andy went to the bathroom, and she was thinking about leaving unseen when she got a message.

Don’t leave. Miranda’s in the building - they’re coming for her!/Rebel.

Andy gasped and stared at her phone.

If Rebel cared about Miranda, then her mother had been right - she was in danger.

The choice was simple: Andy was going to see Miranda again, and save her.

Andy had never met Rebel, and didn’t know a thing about him or her, but she knew this: what her brother was doing to their kind was wrong. She had tried to tell him that, and Peter had tried, but it was like talking to a wall.

“You will be safe”, Nathan promised her, “and Ma and Claire - but I don’t want any of you to do something stupid.”

Nathan was the stupid one. That’s why Andy did her best to help Rebel.

Andy stayed in the bathroom, and she didn’t have to wait for long.

She heard the stamping sound of determined feet; Danko’s men.

Andy opened the door when they had passed; she saw their dark backs as they entered Miranda’s office.

Seven armed men, Andy said to herself, against one defenceless woman - that’s pathetic!

Of course, she didn’t know if Miranda was defenceless - if Rebel knew about her and these men wanted to get her, then she must have an ability. What could it be? Andy hadn’t even known that Miranda had an ability at all.

She heard Miranda scream out loud, and that’s when she attacked the attackers.

She ran in full speed into Miranda’s room, ran past the surprised men, grabbed Miranda with one hand and opened the window with another.

“What the - ?”

“Don’t shoot - that’s the sister!”

“Danko doesn’t give a damn about the sister; get them!”

The window was open, Miranda followed her up on the windowsill and then she screamed.

***

They didn’t fall.

The only thing that fell was Miranda’s voice as she realized that they did the exact opposite of falling.

Andy held her in her arms as she put more distance between them and the bright lights of the city beneath them, and took them closer to the bright stars above them.

Neither of them spoke. Not until Andy landed on soft grass between huge maples in a park.

“You can fly.”

Andy nodded.

“Yes. This was not how I imagined meeting you again…”

Andy looked at the silver haired woman; it was dark and she couldn’t see her clearly, and they had never been alone in the dark before. She didn’t know what to say, but told her:

“I’ve missed you.”

“You’re full of surprises, Andrea”, Miranda said, and her voice was trembling a little. “First you’re the best assistant I ever had, then you walk out on me in Paris, and I don’t hear a single word from you - and then you come running like that, saving me, and you fly.”

“I thought”, Andy said carefully, “that you were angry; that you didn’t want to see me again or hear anything from me… But I couldn’t let them hurt you. I couldn’t let them take you away.”

It wasn’t easy to see the expression on Miranda’s face in the darkness under the trees, but Andy could see her eyes; they were bright as shining lights.

Yes, she had missed feeling those bright lights fall upon her.

”How did you know?” Miranda asked.

“I didn’t”, Andy tried to explain, “but I wanted to see you, and I was told by my mom that you were in danger…”

“Angela?” Miranda interrupted. “She told you about me?”

“Not exactly, she said it was about someone I care about. I thought it was you… And then I got a text message…”

“Rebel?” Miranda interrupted again. “You get those messages? What do you do?”

“Um… I try to help, of course - has Rebel contacted you too?”

Miranda nodded, and admitted that she deleted the messages.

“I thought that I had left all that behind me. I don’t want to be a part of it.”

“It looks like you already are…”

“I don’t want to be. I thought that if I made myself invisible... but I guess it’s more complicated than that. I know what these men wanted; I’ve seen your brother on TV, heard him talk about ‘terrorists’…”

“I’m not on his team”, Andy quickly reassured her.

“So I see. But what can we do?”

Both of them were quiet.

Eventually Andy said:

“You’ll have to leave Runway for a while”, and Miranda sighed deeply. “And… we could go away somewhere. And talk. You could tell me about… you and mom, and all…”

“It’s very complicated”, Miranda said.

“Of course”, Andy replied, “and you don’t have to tell me anything…”

“Did you say you care about me?” Miranda said.

“Yes”, Andy smiled, “and that’s the least complicated part of all this.”
