I think the not being able to read her thoughts is important later, but I forget why (it was some complicated boring thing in the fourth book that didn't make much sense). I don't think the sensitivity to smell ever comes up again - I think it was probably just sloppy writing. I wasn't paying much attention when I read that part and just assumed that part of the reason she passed out was that she was thinking about blood and needles too much (which always makes things worse).

And speaking of Bella having her period, I always wondered if stalker!Edward ever stole her tampons. (That would have been hilarious and gross, and I would have liked the books so much more)

I knew I was hoping for too much when I hoped there would be an interesting explanation that makes sense...
And I think you're right, it was probably just sloppy writing.

That would have been hilarious and gross, and I would have liked the books so much more *lol* That was definitely a missed opportunity! Well, I think the easiest solution for writers of vampire fiction is to pretend that things like tampons don't exist. (Exception: Anne Rice...)

Ha ha! I haven't read much Anne Rice.

I dunno if you're interested in Twilight fanfiction, but I read one recently that was pretty good, and gives Edward a backstory that gives an explanation for his controling behavior / perfect facade. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6717626/1/Secrets-of-the-Mind-Reader

(I don't actually search for Twilight fanfiction, but I'd heard this one mentioned on a writing forum, and it sounded interesting.)

I have read the first chapter, and I've got to say, I like Edward more in this version than in the actual book. I'm like you; I wouldn't search for Twilight fic, but I trust my friends' recommendations. :) Thanks!

it's almost endearing how you're trying to make sense of twilight

*lol* I'm going to stop trying now.

Happy birthday, by the way! (One day too late.) I hope you had a good day. :)

I was thinking about a big part of why Edward is attracted to Bella is that he almost can't resist the way she smells.

Except for how he's a predator and she's prey, and he literally means she spells good enough to eat.

By the way, if Bella faints just because of a drop of blood on somebody's fingertip, somebody who isn't even sitting next to her, how can she even be in school without being sick all the time? With so many girls, someone has to have their period around her... and doesn't she make herself sick, too?

Lol, I don't even remember this part any longer because it makes zero sense. How can she be afraid of her own blood and still... a woman past puberty? And let us not discuss Edwards and tampons. My brain shut down just thinking about it.

I have decided that there are just too many things that don't make sense, so I'll give up reading these books! I did begin to read the second one when I was at the library the day before yesterday but I only read a few chapters.

Instead, I continued reading Blue Bloods. All the girls know that they are vampires now, and now I'm interested in the story. :)

Lol. I remember being so excited to start these books, back in 2007... and then I actually read them.

Ooooh, report back your thoughts on Blue Bloods.

When I first started reading it, I was a little bit bored, to be honest. I felt like I was reading and reading and I was still waiting for something to happen, and it felt like the chapters were too short - as soon as I was getting into a character’s head, the point of view changed, and it was frustrating. (That’s odd, because I don’t always have a problem with alternating points of view.)

At the same time I found it fascinating that the setting is different from what I usually read. Rich kids in New York going to parties, wearing designer clothes… yes, I have to call that “different”. I sort of like that, but I find it… amusing, too. All that name-dropping… “She was wearing a blue [designer name] dress”… doesn’t mean anything to me, but I understand that it probably adds atmosphere to people who read fashion magazines. :)

Then I read that other book, and suddenly, Blue Bloods seemed a lot more appealing to me! Seriously, though, I think I just had to get to the point where all those short chapters had built up enough knowledge of ( ... )
