Plus he's a little long in the tooth to be a cadet. Worst. Idea. Ever.

YES! Because one of Kirk's big things was that he was the YOUNGEST PERSON to do a LOT of things. IIRC he was 16 when he got into the Academy.

SIXTEEN. So even if they go later in his academic career... Maybe he's 20 near graduation. Matt Damon. Playing. 20.

*siighs*

Ah-ha! That's what's been bugging me about it. Couldn't put my finger on it, but I just could NOT see Matt Damon as Kirk.

Matt Damon as Kirk

See? This to me is reason enough to cry. It makes it even worse.

Yes.

I hope to god that's an overhyped rumor. *crosses toes*

You know, given that the franchise owes its existence to obsessive fans, eyerolling when they act like...obsessive fans is a little stupid.

I know. The dicotomy is a little scary. I mean I've BEEN to a major Trek con run by Creation, I've HEARD stories by people really close to the studios.

The whole thing is...

Best example I can think of is how much each Trek season is *still* selling for.

Amazon has this thing, the entire Star Trek experience. All episodes, all series (except animated), all movies. $5000.

Let that number sink in.

Now, I went and added all that up individually.

IT'S A DISCOUNT.

WTF?

Paramount owns the rights to that stuff whole now. And it's rediculous and they do it because they know the fen will pay. It's a two way street but I know, but I feel completely disrespected by the entire company.

Amen! They're going to run a beloved bit of my childhood, just like George Lucas did, and then I will have to weep tears of blood.
