Hi. I came across this entry while I was searching to see who else had interests that were in my list, so I hope you do not mind me dropping in like this.
I have to say that unfortunately buying old, used TVs is fraught with danger like this. Most people do not sell their old TVs unless they have outgrown them like I did, which means there will be some issues with them even if they do work perfectly. I have invariably found that it is worth saving or borrowing a bit of money and buying a whole new set. At first I was balking at the cost of getting myself a high-def plasma panel, but a couple of years after doing so, I would not go back for love or money. The first plasma TV I bought would probably only cost a few hundred these days, but being able to see the whole picture, not just the portion that the CRT chooses to show you, is priceless.
