Atlantis looked exactly the same as Daniel remembered, but somehow also completely different.

It was certainly busier, a full-grown colony now rather than a far-flung outpost, bustling with people in a mix of military uniforms, expedition uniforms and a wide variety of civilian clothes.

Still carrying their suitcases, Daniel and Vala quickly moved out of the way for a group of Athosians who were heading out.

"Look who's here!" called a familiar voice, and they looked up to see John Sheppard hurrying down the 'gate room steps, grinning broadly and closely followed by Rodney McKay.

"Dr. Jackson... and Dr. Jackson. Welcome to Atlantis."

Daniel grinned back. "General Sheppard."

McKay snorted. "What?" he asked, when they all looked at him. "You never thought you'd make it past major!"

"True enough," Sheppard admitted, easily. "And did you hear Rodney got another PhD?"

Vala grinned. "Everyone on Earth heard about that, John. And several other planets, too, I believe."

"Fine, mock the genius," McKay muttered, but Sheppard bumped his shoulder and he smiled. "Teyla and Ronon say hi. They're on the mainland until tomorrow, though."

"And Teyla wanted to thank you again for keeping an eye on Torren while he's at MIT," added Sheppard.

"It's not a problem," Daniel assured them. "It was good practice for when ours started college."

"We're very proud of all of them," put in Vala. "But it is nice to have some time to ourselves now and then."

"Understandable," said Sheppard. "So, I suppose I should let you head over to the hologram room and get started with your research."

"Nope." said Daniel, brightly. "No database searching for us."

"Really?" asked McKay.

"Nope," repeated Vala. She dropped her suitcase and linked her arm through her husband's. "We're on vacation. There'll be nothing for us but sun, sea and se-"

"Vala!" Daniel interrupted.

She rolled her eyes. "We are here for our second honeymoon, darling." Vala tugged him toward the stairs, not even pausing as she called over her shoulder, "Take the bags to our room, won't you, Rodney?"

McKay spluttered a protest, but Sheppard just grinned and grabbed a passing airman to play bellhop. "Don't forget to check in with the cruise director on the Lido deck!" he called.

Their guest quarters were high in one of the towers on Atlantis's south pier, with a fantastic view of the ocean.

Vala leaned against the balcony rail, watching some kind of bird soar above the water. The shoreline of the mainland was just visible, a stretch of brown and green at the edge of all that blue.

Daniel came up beside her and slid an arm around her waist. "So," he said. "We have two weeks."

"Yep," she agreed.

"Two whole weeks."

"Yes, you said that."

"Two whole weeks without kids, without catastrophes, without anything to translate or authenticate. So what do you say we save the sun and sea for later, and get started on the sex part of this vacation?"

Vala grinned. "Fine with me, darling."
