Levi stared down at the box in his hands. “I… I don’t understand.”

“I’m sorry we couldn’t have more of a ceremony,” said General Hammond. “But as it is, I’ve had that in my desk for almost a month and there just hasn’t been any time.”

“Oh, no, general, this is fine,” said Levi. “I just don’t… Valor, sir? Me?”

Hammond’s expression softened. “There are different kinds of valor, son,” he said. “Yours is no less important.”

“I…” Levi smiled. “Thank you, sir.”

“You earned it. Now, go enjoy the celebration in the mess I know nothing about.”

“Yes, sir.”
