Reflection in your glass: Chapter 4 The setup

Jun walked over and placed a tray of food and drink for his sister as he asked, “So are you going to explain to me what happened?”

Akira took a sip of the drink before smiling at her brother as he sat down at the table with her, “Well my senpais from work invited me out to a bar where a good looking bartender was supposed to be. Turns out that Masaki was the bartender they were talking about. I tried to run away but that baka ran after me and the next thing I know he got my phone number and I had his. Then he called after he got off work, we had some drinks at my place, and I guess the alcohol messed with my mind cause we ended up in bed together.”

“You really shouldn’t drink so much then Akira-chan, you’ve never had a good record when it comes to your drinking,” Rin chimed in as she scooped her daughter up and walked over to the table.

Rin placed her daughter in her high chair and fetched her something to eat as Jun asked, “So what happened when you guys woke up this morning?”

“Kohana-chan, ta-be-tai?” Akira turned and asked her niece with a goofy tone.

Kohana giggled and nodded her head before Rin placed a bowl of fruit in front of her daughter and allowed her to eat by herself. Rin then took a seat at the table with them, giving Akira her attention while keeping an eye on her daughter.

“Well when I woke up Masaki had already left and I was alone. He said he had something to do for his work so that’s why he left and he’d call me later, but I don’t know how I feel about him being back in my life like this. I mean, it was like a one night stand, it’s not like I’m looking forward to seeing him again,” Akira rambled on.

Rin and Jun exchanged looks before Jun spoke again, “Well it doesn’t hurt to just stay friends again. I know you guys had a thing for years but before that you guys were friends so it’s possible to just go back to being good friends.”

“You’re right Jun-nii, just because we did that last night doesn’t mean we’re automatically going out or anything. It was a onetime thing, we’ll just be friends is all,” Akira agreed with Jun before digging into her food more.

Aiba was walking along the side walk in search of the place that Nino said was Akira’s favorite place to get bread. He wanted to surprise her with her favorite bread as an apology for not being there when she woke up. As he got closer he started to feel like the place was familiar. Then he saw the shop and instantly recognized it as his senpai’s. He hesitated before walking in confidently, instantly greeted by that familiar voice from high school.

“Welcome!” Ohno called out as he came from the back upon hearing the bell of the door being opened.

The two of them froze for a moment before they exchanged smiles and went right up to each other.

“Long time no see! How have you been Aiba-chan?!” Ohno tried to be friendly as they went up to each other.

“It sure has but you’ve barely changed at all senpai! I’m doing pretty good for myself, um, how’s Mizumi-chan?” Aiba asked.

Ohno’s smile faded slightly as he chuckled bitterly, “We’re no longer together actually.”

“Ah! Gomen!” Aiba apologized as he forgot that Akira told him that last night.

“Iie, it’s alright, you didn’t know. Yeah, we broke up some time ago, but it’s ok I’ve been fine on my own. Now what brings you here?” Ohno asked as he brought Aiba over to the counter.

“Ah, well I was suggested this place to get some bread,” Aiba hesitantly explained.

“Oh? Someone told you to come here for bread? That’s nice of them to suggest me, now what would you like?” Ohno asked.

“Um, well I heard that Akira-chan frequents here right? Could you get me her favorite bread please,” Aiba asked.

Ohno was frozen for a moment hearing about Akira before asking casually, “Yeah she really likes my bread, so you want to get her favorite bread, how come?”

“Ah, well, I’m going to give them to her later as an apology gift,” Aiba answered as he ruffled his hair.

“An apology? What did you do to her?” Ohno asked instantly without thinking.

Aiba was surprised but answered, “Well I intruded her home last night and I wanted to apologize for my late visit last night.”

Late visit? What was he doing at her house? Ohno thought to himself but just pretended to not be bothered by it as he went to the back to fetch the bread. Aiba waited patiently but was thinking to himself about what was the relationship between Akira and Ohno since she didn’t tell him much last night. He at least knew they weren’t going out, but he wondered how close they really were. Once Ohno returned with the bread Aiba paid and left quickly in the direction of Nino’s place.

“I swear that brat set me up, no wonder he wouldn’t tell me what the shop’s name was,” Aiba grumbled to himself as he headed towards the brat’s home.

In no time he was walking up the steps of the apartment building and headed up the stairs to Nino’s place. He knocked on the door twice before he was greeted by a familiar smiling face.

“Hey Aiba-kun! Good, you can baby sit that man over there for me today! I’m running late for my shift thanks to a certain man!” Yori called over her shoulder at Nino who was sitting on the couch watching TV.

Nino turned a cheeky smile at them and hollered back, “You could have said no, but you couldn’t stop repeating ‘yes yes’ the whole time.”

Yori’s face turned a deep red before she snapped, “Baka! Don’t say stuff like that in front of a guest!”

Aiba couldn’t help but chuckle seeing Yori getting all flustered. Yori noticed and hit him on the shoulder and scolded him for laughing before running out the door to work. Aiba shed himself of his stuff before heading over and sitting on the couch with Nino.

“So…did you go to get the bread?” Nino asked casually as he watched the TV.

“Oh that reminds me,” Aiba said before jumping Nino and getting him in a head lock, “You totally set me up didn’t you?!”

“Itai! Itai! Itai! It’s not what you think!” Nino cried out with a smile on his face.

“So that was just a coincidence that you sent me to Ohno’s bread shop?” Aiba asked him as he squeezed him.

“She is the one who frequents there! You did say you wanted to get her something good! I just happen to know she went there and I wanted to help you out!” Nino tried to explain himself.

Aiba let him go before letting out a sigh and asking, “Do you know what their relationship is?”

Nino smiled devilishly before answering, “Well~I do know that Ohno-kun visits her frequently and always requests her to drink with him since she is the one girl who he feels close to after Mizumi-chan.”

Aiba frowned at his smile and asked, “Are you trying to tease me?”

Nino’s smile faded before he asked in a serious tone, “Aiba-kun, what are you going to do with Akira-chan anyways? You’re back in her life, but the first night you see each other you sleep together. What exactly are you planning?”

Aiba lost his smile, looking away from Nino as he let out a sigh before answering, “I want to know how she feels about me now. I know right now she doesn’t want to have anything to do with me, but…I don’t want to let her go so easily this time.”

Nino stayed silent as he saw the serious look in Aiba’s eyes. Nino couldn’t help but chuckle and internally wish him luck even though he himself wasn’t sure who was going to be the one to win over Akira. Pan man versus the baka, who will win over her highness’ affection? Nino thought to himself as he leaned on his knees with his elbows and looked over at Aiba. Aiba regained his usual smile and smiled over at Nino before attacking him again.

“Now you better tell what I’ve missed from her life to make up for that set up!” Aiba teased as he messed with Nino.

Nino just laughed as he tried to fight him off, “Alright alright, I’ll give you details, just stop tickling me!”

What cha think? leave me some love~lol XD
