“Akira, over here!” Ohno called out to her as he waved to her.
Akira walked over, her usual big smile on her face as she sat down. Today she seemed a bit different. Normally she wasn’t one to dress up nicely around him as she was more comfortable being in t-shirt and jeans, but today she was wearing a red blouse and a black skirt that flowed nicely over her knees. Her short dark hair exposed her neck and collarbones nicely, making her look so feminine today.
“So why did you need to call me so badly today?” Ohno asked, wondering what she needed to talk to him about.
“Ah, right…well, I wanted to ask, do you remember how you got really drunk a couple weeks ago at my house?” Akira asked as she looked out the café windows.
“Oh, yeah I remember waking up in your house the next day, but even now I still can’t remember anything from that night,” Ohno chuckled lightly.
That night was a blur to him and even though Akira asked him to try and remember, it seemed impossible for him to. He had tried to have her tell him, but she refused to tell him for some reason. Even though Ohno could chuckle about this issue, he noticed that Akira looked trouble. Ohno leaned over, placing his hand on hers in a comforting gesture.
“Is something wrong Akira-chan?” Ohno asked with a gentle smile on his face.
Akira looked up at him before she shook her head and responded, “No, it’s nothing really. I guess it’s nothing really after all…”
Ohno tilted his head in confusion as he couldn’t understand her sometimes. He figured that if she said it was nothing he wouldn’t prod further as he would let her decide if she really wanted to tell him about it. They spent about half an hour there talking before Ohno had to leave for work, leaving Akira behind in the café. Once he was gone Akira placed her head in her hands, trying to cover her face as she tried to hold back the overwhelming emotions she was feeling.
“Are you ok Miss?” a smooth voice asked.
Akira looked up and saw the waiter whom she knew somewhat. Since she and Ohno had come there for years she had gotten to know this waiter pretty well. He handed her a handkerchief from his pocket, letting her take it and dab at her eyes. He took at seat across from her, feeling sorry for this woman without knowing exactly what was going on.
“Thanks Ninomiya-kun, I didn’t think I’d cry like that,” Akira chuckled as she handed him back the handkerchief.
“If it’s possible, can I ask what’s wrong?” Nino asked with a look of worry and concern on his face.
Akira smiled at him before she asked, “Can I ask you a hypothetical question?”
“Yeah go right ahead,” Nino answered happily.
“What if you had a girl come up to you and tell you that she was pregnant with your kid, but you couldn’t recall even sleeping with her? Would you even believe her?” Akira asked as she leaned closer to him, lowering her voice so others couldn’t over hear her.
Nino was taken aback by this question before he took a moment to answer, “Hmmm, well if that happened I’m not sure what to believe. If possible I would ask her to tell me when I slept with her and if I remembered then I would ask for a test to prove it was my kid in the first place.”
Akira looked down before she sat back against the chair, her gaze directed down at her folded hands in her lap. Nino wasn’t quite sure why she seemed so down, but he wanted so badly to hold her and comfort her…

Akira brushed her hair, looking back at her reflection in the mirror. Her eyes were swollen and red from her crying herself to sleep for the past couple nights. She looked like a train wreck as she walked out of the bathroom, unable to look at herself anymore. Her phone had been ringing and going off about texts, but she had no will to answer any of them. She threw herself on the bed, closing her eyes as she tried to go back to sleep, but a loud knocking at her door woke her.
Akira got up and went over to the door, looking through the peep hole and seeing her friends on the other side. Akira opened the door, letting her friends in as they yelled at her for not answering their calls or texts.
“Do you know how worried we were?” Rin asked as she ruffled her long blonde hair.
“Yori and I almost kicked down the door if you didn’t answer!” Noriko added as Yori nodded her head in agreement.
Mizumi noticed first before the others the state Akira was in. She rushed over to her, looking her over as she asked if she was ok. Then the other girls noticed and panicked, wondering if they should take her to the doctor or not. Rin even offered to cook her something to eat, as she didn’t look like she had eaten much lately, but the others stopped her of course reminding her that she couldn’t cook.
“If you guys will settle down I’ll tell you guys why I look like this…” Akira told them before she walked over to her living room, taking a seat on her love seat.
The others filled the couch and Rin took a seat next to Akira on the love seat. It was quiet as they awaited the reason why Akira looked the way she did.
Akira took a deep breath before she finally spoke, “I feel like crap, I can barely look at myself in the mirror anymore. I feel so torn right now because…I’m pregnant.”
“You’re pregnant?!” the girls erupted together although they weren’t sure why Akira looked so gloomy about it.
“So…who’s the father?” Yori asked.
“I’m pretty sure it’s Ohno, but he doesn’t know yet,” Akira answered.
“What? But I thought you and Ohno-kun were just friends?” Noriko pointed out.
“Did you guys start going out without us knowing or something?” Yori chimed in.
Akira shook her head, “We ended up getting really drunk one night and we couldn’t help but end up in bed together. I noticed I was late and then I took a pregnancy test the other day and it turned up positive.”
The girls were silent before Mizumi asked, “And he still doesn’t know you’re pregnant?”
“He doesn’t even remember we slept together that night. I tried to tell him a couple days ago, but I chickened out and now I don’t know what to do anymore. I know he has a right to know, but I’m so scared to tell him!” Akira busted into tears as she covered her face.
Rin wrapped her arms around her comfortingly before she said, “Well, he does have a right to know, you have to tell him Akira-chan.”
“I know! It hurts that he doesn’t remember what happened that night! I’m scared he’s not going to believe me and end up hating me or it ruining our friendship because of it!” Akira wept.
The girls exchanged looks with each other, the room filled with uneasiness as they weren’t even sure how to calm their friend or even how to solve this problem for her.
The next day Akira had gone to the doctor to confirm that she was pregnant. Once she had gotten the news she went to the café, taking a seat where she usually did, ordering only water. She sat in silence as she thought to herself before someone pulled the chair out across from her. Akira looked up and saw Nino looking at her with concern.
“You know all I ever do is come in here and make you worry about me,” Akira managed to smile at him.
Nino pointed to her drink as he asked, “How come you didn’t order the usual?”
“I’m not really up for it today, I haven’t been feeling well,” Akira hesitantly told him.
“Did you go to the doctor? Maybe you have a bug or something?” Nino asked as he leaned on his propped hand and looked over at her.
Akira looked over at him, noticing that he was only looking at her and giving her his full attention despite him being at work. Akira smiled at him, wanting so badly to tell him all of her worries and troubles, but she also feared what he would think of her getting pregnant like this. Nino noticed Akira smiling at him, his heart skipping a beat before her sparkling brown lost their sparkle once again.
“Can I be frank with you?” Nino asked her.
Akira was surprised by Nino before she answered, “Go right ahead Ninomiya-kun.”
“First, stop calling me Ninomiya-kun. I want you to call me Nino, Nino-kun, or even Nino-chan if you’d like, because it’s friendlier than calling me by my last name,” Nino paused as he looked over at Akira.
“Ah, ok Nino-kun, what else?” Akira smiled at him as she said his name.
Nino gulped down before he continued, “Secondly, I know we haven’t really seen each other but here but I want to actually get to know you. Can we exchange numbers?”
Akira blinked before chuckling and pulling out her phone from her pocket. She handed over her phone before he pulled out his and gave it to her. They put their numbers and names into each other’s phones before giving them back. Nino smiled as he looked and saw Akira’s name and her phone number beneath it. He called it to make sure it was right, looking over at Akira as she answered with a happier tone and the sparkle returning to her eyes. From afar the two looked like a happy couple and didn’t go unnoticed by a certain passerby.
Ohno was walking by the café hoping to see Akira as she hadn’t been answering his texts or phone calls. From outside he could see the two of them looking happy together, a part of Ohno feeling a bit off about it. He felt a bit hurt seeing that she was spending time with the waiter, not once giving him a call or a text.
“Is that how it is? I could tell he liked her, but does she like him?” Ohno mumbled to himself before shaking his head of these thoughts.
Ohno walked into the café, heading over to the two of them. Nino noticed Ohno first, shooting up out of the seat which made Akira look behind her. Akira froze seeing Ohno as he walked up to them, calmly looking at her then to Nino.
“Shouldn’t you be working?” Ohno asked.
Nino bowed slightly before he quickly made his exit to the kitchen. Ohno took a seat across from Akira, looking her over as he smiled.
“So what’s with you lately? You forget how to work your phone?” Ohno joked with her as he looked down at her phone sitting on the table top.
“Ah, about that, I haven’t been feeling well lately so I wasn’t answering for anyone. I’m sorry if I made you worried or something,” Akira apologized as she avoided making eye contact.
Ohno noticed how she avoided making eye contact, her posture wasn’t the same and she even sounded soft spoken. It seemed so off as he tried to figure out why she was acting so different with him. Was she trying to be cold to him? Did it have to do with the waiter from earlier? Ohno couldn’t explain it but somehow it kind of angered him how she was acting.
“Ne, Akira-chan what’s with you? Don’t lie and say it’s nothing cause I know it’s not,” Ohno bluntly asked her.
Akira fell silent before she looked finally up at him and answered, “Satoshi…I’m pregnant.”
Ohno was frozen, slightly confused, but then he smiled as he asked, “Congratulations, who’s the father?”
Akira stare him in the eyes for a moment before answering, “It’s you baka!”
Ohno was frozen in his seat, his mind racing, but then he just broke out into a laugh. Akira was confused by him, wondering if had lost it or if he was laughing from the joy of knowing he was going to be a father.
“Ahaha, that’s a good one Akira-chan!” Ohno laughed as he looked over at her.
“Y-Yeah, you’re right! I was wondering if you would believe me or not! You should have seen your face!” Akira chuckled although she felt like she was breaking on the inside.
“You know, you need to at least make it more believable. We’ve never even slept together you can’t get pregnant just by talking to me,” Ohno chuckled along with Akira.
“Yeah it’s pretty impossible right? I don’t know what I was thinking…” Akira smiled before she felt the tears coming to her eyes.
Akira knew this wouldn’t look right if she started to cry so she stood up quickly as she excused herself to the bathroom. She turned into the hall where the bathrooms were and immediately ran into a person. Akira bowed her head as she apologized before looking up and seeing that it was Nino. He looked down at her and saw that her eyes were filled with tears once again.
“Are you okay?!” Nino asked as he grabbed onto her shoulders.
“I just need to go to the bathroom!” Akira snapped as she tried to get away.
Nino didn’t let go of her as he demanded for her to tell him what had happened. Akira struggled with him before she was suddenly pushed up against the wall. Akira was frozen from the shock of it as Nino looked her in the eyes.
“Why do you keep crying because of him?” Nino asked in a clearly pissed tone.
Akira became unfrozen and glared at Nino as she snapped, “Why do you care so much?! You’re just a damn waiter!”
The next thing she knew Akira felt the warm lips on hers. Nino had leaned down swiftly, taking her lips with his, the both of them closing their eyes briefly. At that moment Ohno had come around the corner to make sure Akira was ok since she looked she was going to cry, but he froze when he saw the two of them in their kiss. Before they separated he quickly made his way back around the corner and rushed to his seat as he tried to comprehend what was going on between the her and the waiter.
Once Nino pulled back he looked into Akira’s eyes, about to confess exactly why he cared so much, but he was stopped when he felt the sudden hit in his gut. He doubled over, looking up to see Akira’s red face and her hand in the form of a fist.
“Who the hell do you think you are?!” Akira snapped as she tried to calm her beating heart.
Akira didn’t give him a chance to answer before she ran out, going back to the table and grabbing her purse. She didn’t give Ohno a chance to say anything before she ran out of the café. Ohno quickly went after her down the street, calling out to her. Akira really didn’t want to talk to him right now especially since she was blushing furiously. Ohno sped up and eventually caught up to her, reaching out and grabbing her wrist to stop her.
Akira swung around and snapped, “Leave me alone!”
Ohno saw her red face, but he didn’t let go as he knew she only lashed out when she felt cornered, so in a gentle voice he asked, “Akira-chan what’s the matter?”
“Don’t touch me! I can’t stand to be around you anymore! All I do is hurt! Just stop it!” Akira lashed out as she shook her head furiously.
Ohno pulled her to him, wrapping his arms around her to comfort her as he couldn’t stand to see the look on her face. He felt this weird sensation as he held her in his arms it warmed his heart as it felt like they were living out a scene from a drama. But then reality set in as he heard Akira scream out in anger followed by a swift kick his shin.
Ohno tended to his aching shin, looking at up Akira as she yelled, “What the hell?!”
Akira stormed off, her feelings all over the place, but feeling good she was able to let out some of her feelings through hitting and kicking.
