Reflection in your eyes: Chapter 4
Akira was silent before she finally freaked out, “You might be pregnant?!”
Noriko gave her a death glare as she snapped, “Are you trying to let the whole neighborhood know?!”
“Ah, gomen,” Akira apologized before asking, “So what are you going to do? Have you gotten tested? Does Sho-kun know yet?
Noriko shook her head before explaining, “No one knows but you right now. I’m too scared to go and buy one right now because someone might recognize me and tell my parents or my brother.”
Akira felt bad for her before she thought about it and placed a hand on her shoulder and told her, “I’ll go buy it for you then!”
“Huh?” Noriko was thrown off as she watched Akira jump off her bed and get ready to go out.
“I’ll be right back, you can even take the test here so there’s no chance of your brother and parents seeing it,” Akira reassured her before walking out.
Akira walked out to the drugstore, looking down the aisles for the pregnancy tests. When she was about to reach out to grab one another hand reached out and stopped her from grabbing it. Akira turned to see Aiba, his face flushed as he pulled her arm away from the shelf.
“What are you doing Masaki-kun?” Akira asked ticked off that he was here and in her way.
“What are you doing?!” he shot the question back at her, his voice lowered.
“What does it look like? I’m buying one of these,” Akira motioned to the pregnancy tests.
“Why?! You aren’t sleeping with anyone are you?!” Aiba became more flustered as he couldn’t believe that she was actually getting one for herself.
“Eh? No way, I’m still a virgin,” Akira admitted light heartedly, “I’m buying it for a friend who’s afraid to get it herself. No worries.”
Aiba let out a sigh of relief as he let go of her and let her grab a box before asking, “You really don’t get embarrassed do you?”
“What do you mean?” Akira chuckled as she went to the cashier, Aiba following her as she paid for the test.
The two of them walked out together as Aiba explained, “Well I mean I was walking home from getting some things Noriko asked me to get, but when I saw you just walking so coolly into their and over to the tests I freaked out and ran in after you. You didn’t care that someone might see you buying that and then you just announced your virginity in that store without batting an eyelash.”
“Well it wasn’t for me and it’s not like I get embarrassed with you around anyways,” Akira chuckled as they finally reached their houses.
“Good point,” Aiba laughed before parting ways with her.
Akira hurried into her room and saw that Noriko was gone, figuring she had gone back home so Aiba didn’t think she was here. Akira threw the test into her bedside table drawer before hearing her brother call her down for dinner.
The next day at school Yori was in class early, setting her things out on her desk when a couple of her friends came running over to her. They pulled her out of the classroom and into the girl’s bathroom to be alone.
“What’s so important guys?” Yori asked.
“Ok so Nami and I were walking home right and when we passed by the drugstore we saw…” Ruri started to say before her twin sister finished.
“Aiba-kun and Akira-chan were together and they bought a pregnancy test together!” Nami finished.
Yori was frozen as she felt her heart breaking into thousands of pieces. She tried to not let herself look hurt as she chuckled, “It’s got to be a mistake, and there is no way, he’s dating me after all.”
The twins exchanged looks as they felt badly for their friend who tried to play it off. Meanwhile the word was spreading down from the seniors to the lower grades quickly, reaching Jun in no time. He was appalled to hear a story like this and went straight to Aiba and Akira’s classroom to sort this out. As he walked there his anger was rising as he thought about how much Aiba went into her room, the way he looked at her, what if he had made a fool of everyone and really deflowered his sister.
Akira turned to see the door slide open and saw her brother, “Jun? What are you doing here? Shouldn’t class be starting soon?”
Akira went over to him, but he walked past her to Aiba and she watched as he grabbed him by his shirt. He brought his hand up like he was going to hit him, but Akira quickly grabbed her brother and stopped him from swinging.
“Nii-chan! What are you doing?!” Akira screamed.
“I heard about it! You touched my sister didn’t you?!” Jun yelled as he shook his sister off.
Aiba was scared as Sho pulled Aiba from him and tried to get between them to prevent a fight. Sho told Jun to back off as the class gathered around to see if there would be a fight.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about Jun-kun!” Aiba yelled back.
“It’s the talk of the school right now! Everyone knows you and Akira were at the drugstore yesterday! And we all know what you bought, you bast-!” Jun yelled as Akira tugged on him to get him to stop.
Aiba and Akira knew exactly what he was talking about as Akira tried to defend them both, “It’s not what you think!”
“Oh really? Then why did you buy one of those tests, huh? And why was he with you other than hopefully taking responsibility for what he’s done to you?!” Jun snapped as he glared at Aiba.
“Jun!” Akira snapped along with a familiar female voice.
They all turned around and saw Noriko, out of breath, standing in the doorway. Noriko walked in and demanded that they all to go somewhere more private to talk. Noriko guided Aiba, Jun, Akira, and Sho up to the rooftop to talk. Yori ran to the classroom just missing them and seeing only Nino there amongst the gossiping class. When he saw her it only took one look to know she was upset.
He got up quickly and ran over to her as he asked, “Hey are you ok?”
She started to shake and Nino wanted to wrap his arms around her and comfort her, but he grabbed her wrist and took her off down the hallway. She didn’t resist as he brought her to the empty art room, closing the door behind them. As soon as it was closed he hugged her and she silently hugged him back.
“I don’t want to believe it Nino-kun…he wouldn’t do that to me would he?” Yori mumbled in a shaky voice.
“Do you want to know what I think?” Nino asked her giving her a moment as she nodded her head before continuing, “I think that Aiba-kun doesn’t love you…but I do.”
Yori felt him lift her chin, their eyes meeting before he leaned in close. He leaned down slowly giving her a chance to push him away, but she did nothing but closed her eyes as their lips met.
Meanwhile, on the rooftop the siblings and Sho gathered. Noriko was pacing back and forth before going over to stand near Sho who was surprised and wondering what she was doing.
“I have to tell you that Akira didn’t buy a pregnancy test for herself…because I’m the one who she bought it for,” Noriko explained.
Aiba’s face dropped before rushing over and shaking his sister as he frantically asked, “Who is it?!”
Noriko glanced over at Sho who was in utter shock before looking at her brother and answering, “I’ve been dating Sho-kun in secret and he’s the one I lost my virginity to.”
Sho turned to Aiba to apologize but he stopped when he saw Aiba’s shocked face. He turned his big brown eyes to him the sadness reflected in them as he went over to him. Then the next thing he knew Sho was on the ground after Aiba’s fist connected painfully with his face. Noriko went to Sho’s side to check his face while Akira and Jun held Aiba back.
“How could you?! You were my best friend! She’s my little sister Sho! What’s wrong with you?!” Aiba yelled as feelings of betrayal flooded through him.
Noriko got up and tried to defend him, “It’s not his fault! He didn’t force me to do anything!”
“Noriko!” Sho stopped her as he got up and went over to Aiba, “I know it was wrong to go behind your back and date your sister, but I really do love her. She told me she wanted to lose it with someone she really loved and I didn’t want to turn her down. We don’t regret what we’ve done except keeping it a secret.”
“You took advantage of her! You could have turned her down, but you went ahead and had sex with her like it was no big deal! And you say you regret nothing but keeping a secret?!” Aiba continued to yell as his voice became shaky.
“I love Sho-kun and I wanted to lose it with him! Why can’t you understand this?! Don’t you have someone you want to lose it with?! At least I can tell the person I lo-” Noriko argued before she was cut off by her brother.
“Just cut it out! I’ve heard enough….” Aiba shook Jun and Akira off before storming away.
Akira looked back at Sho and Noriko as they linked hands before she ran off after Aiba to make sure he was going to be ok. Noriko and Sho stood strong together, holding hands, knowing that they had gotten passed one hurdle and only had one more to face…
