It's the sound they made last night when I picked up 50 Shades of Suck: 50 Shades Suckier again and attempted to wade through more of its muck. X_x Seriously, I don't know if I can finish this book, the crap just gets worse with every page

Ugh- thank you. Completely agree. Give me a well-written fanfic any day over archetypal drivel for the masses. It might take me two hours to find one, but it's a stronger guarantee of satisfaction once I've found it- plus, wading through fanfic tripe makes me feel like I've earned something! :D

I also tend to avoid rich protagonists- especially if I don't feel that they've overcome some sort of odd to be worthy of their fortune. Hey- if I have to work my ass off for pretty much nothing (hehe-my profession made Yahoo's "Top 5 Most Underpaid" professions list this past week. Boo. At least I have one, I suppose...), I expect my MCs to have to do the same!

The fanfic writers I know are VASTLY superior to EL James ANY day. No joke.

Rich protagonists per se don't automatically trigger my hate reflex (although it doesn't help), but when they're as rich and as perfect and as cardboard as Christian I Have Issues Gray, they PISS ME OFF, and *my* Inner Goddess goes into 'kill' mode (as does my Akabane muse, who just wants to kill lol).
