Of course, The Management at Fireside Park Apartments didn't call me back by 10 a.m. Again, it seems they didn't bother to listen to their messages ( Read more... )

If you don't mind my asking, when do you have to move out? As in, would them NOT doing the repair entail you living in misery for at least another 6 months, or are you going to be gone within a month or two?

I can't imagine how draining all this would be. Oy...

My lease is up in mid-August.

There is little chance that I'll be around that long.

At this point, I'm planning on a new place by the end of this month. If not sooner.

Wow, didn't know it was that soon!

I really hope they don't continue to intentionally ignore your problem...I just really don't get what their deal is.

And you're right, I hope to never encounter Angry Kier face to face. ;P

Even my contractor, who does a really good job, absolutely refuses to cut out drywall and replace it. He would rather mud and sand 6 times. I don't get it.

Time from job start to job completion, yes. But he gets to go work on another job while it's drying. I think that's why he does it.

How much was your security deposit?

How much would it cost to get out of the lease?

If your lease is up in a month, I would say just stick it out, even if it means you don't do anything in there but sleep and stay out at all other times. It's probably not worth it to even fight with them over the repairs. You've got enough of a paper trail by now to show you didn't maliciously hurt the kitchen ceiling.

Oh, I don't think they'd complain at all if I were to leave early...

Just because the management staff will be relieved to see you go doesn't mean that some other arm of the bureaucracy won't try and charge you for breaking your lease. If they're happy to see you go, make sure they're happy to see you go in writing.

Oh, I've got that covered.

At the absolute least, I won't be paying rent next month anyway.

But my plan at this point it to walk out free and clear... and with a check in my hand.

Finally!

Your rage is overdue and well vented.

Perhaps.

But it also makes me feel physically ill. :(

I have worked long and hard to virtually eliminate anger from my life. It is a vile, vile poison.

Hm. Well, I can certainly respect that.

Still, I hope in this case it is effective... although I'm not sure what I'm hoping it is effective *at*.

Let's just hope I don't have to complete "go over to the Dark Side" to get things accomplished.

I mean, sure, I've got plenty of Karma to burn, but I'd really rather save that stuff up. ;)
