That sounds like it was really neat. You're right, it should really have been longer. Too bad about the crowds being so big. It's nice that you got to get together with some of your friends ^_^
I think it would be great to learn something about costumes. Period clothing especially would be great fun to recreate. I am amazed you went to such a busy event though. We just have a three-day event back home in Silverdale, but I never go because people from all over Kitsap County (not the whole continent) are there, and I hate fighting through crowds.
Speaking of fighting, there will always be people who will find any excuse to be stupid. I hope police were there to keep people in line.
Oh, yes! It seems people isn't able to having some funn without alcohol and some street quarrel >__< The police was there, but around 80 people were involved in the fight... fortunately, there was around 1 milliom of people enjoying the White Night and 80 people is a very little amount.
The costumes were amazing, some of them had around 400 years old and there were even panties and others. Loremaula knows a lot about accident suits and she explained me many things... It's a very useful information if you want to draw those amazing dresses. ^__~ Too bad I couln't take any photo because flashes may hurt those accident suits.
What is that event you're talking about? It sounds like something similar to White Nights. However, I can see why you refised to go. Crowing places? No, thanks! >___
Oh, Whaling Days is what we celebrate, but no, we don't go out to kill whales. We have a duck race (the ducks are plastic ducks put into the water, then they are washed back to shore. Those that come back first win prizes), hydro jet races, there's a parade, music...they've added a lot of things since I was a kid, but I've not gone. I don't like all those people. ^_-;
A lot of towns and cities around here have such events. Poulsbo (where I worked) had Viking's Fest every year, where the city celebrates its Norwegian heritage. Seattle has Bumbershoot (another name for 'umbrella') every year as well, but I've never been. It does add a lot of flavor to the town/city though. ^_-
¿Has visto el catálogo? Me ha decepcionado mucho: no hay fotos de todos los trajes. Me interesaba especialmente el vestido rococó "à la polonaise"...y sólo se ve de refilón. T_T Un tanto incompleto.
