Seriously, though, I don't see why Ishmael can't be both the protagonist and the damsel in distress. Plenty of Disney princesses have pulled it off. (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, etc.)
Samson and Sally (the English version) is an animated movie about little whales who go search for Moby Dick! There is no singing, only SADNESS. I really liked that movie as a kid.
