Oh man, I really should be reading, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I read Emma, like a good little schoolgirl, for about 7 hours straight yesterday - but I'm still not finished ::facepalm:: I just can't read like I used to - I don't know if it feels like a chore now, or if it's because I've gotten to used to a, um, more visual medium :: ( Read more... )

You are posting alot - i cant keep up with replies - but let it be known that your random insights make me happy when i read them!'

Here is the thing that i have found re. academia. It is an obsession - for this reason the best way to get anything done is to intergrate it into your other obsessions (boys boys boys!). By this i mean - as you do your work feel free to daydream about how what you are doing relates to what you like and if it will work in an essay. Seriously, you remember the material better and get to have a sly grin all day long. Obviously this is a kind of easy thing to do in cinema, because i am visually obsessive, but im sure there are ways that these things work in lit. Thesis on slash anyone???!!!

No one is the academic type - they just fall into it and forget to ever leave - it is a compound effect of cultural accumulation over time. Seriously.

The apple man eh? Sounds intriguing in a midwestern kinda way....

*apple man propositions amarena...*
"How do you like them apples?"

*giggle*

I'm posting a lot because I am (obviously) avoiding other things - but I'm glad you're happy! :)

You know, when I think about it, I often do work my obsessions to my essays. Like you said, it's easier with some things (Angela Carter and her girls being propositioned by werewolves - yay!) than others (fracking Cat's Eye). It's just that I have this gnawing fear that I'm faking it, like I really shouldn't be there, because sooner or later they are going to realise I am an idiot fucktard and throw me out. I don't know if that makes sense or not, I'm not so clear on it myself, it just frightens me.

And yeah, he had the whole thumbs in jean loops laid back sprawl thing going on - all he needed was a piece of straw hanging out the side of his mouth, and a bit more of a draaawl and it would've been perfect!

I'm in the same boat as pop_pony here, its like every time I check my friends page I see two more relatively large posts from you, but I try to keep up.

I think most people probably think the same thing: That they don't belong in their college/university. But, regardless, I actually haven't known anyone who has gotten kicked out of one! And don't worry about being clear on stuff about yourself, since such insights on oneself are usually a bit blurry and uncertain.

Darn, now I feel really annoying and prolific. I'll try to cut down - it's back to uni again tomorrow anyway, back to Melbourne and my aunt's house and her horrible computer which has as even worse internet connection than here - so you can probably expect a few days of blessed silence on the amarena front, k?

The thing with uni though is that it's not only that I don't feel like I belong, it's also that I don't give a damn. Huh, even that is too strong a feeling - I've just become so totally disinterested in the whole uni-thing. Which is ridiculous, really, because I would die a quick and painful death in the real world, and should be milking the "carefree sudent life" for all it's worth.

Basically I think it all comes down to the fact that I am incredibly lazy as well as easily bored and distracted. Horrible combination. Don't know that there's a hell of a lot that I can do about it though - we are who we are right? Or is that just further evidence of my laziness? :P
