So I just finished reading the first three stories I ever wrote. I hadn't read them in a long time, and I wanted to see how much my perspective has changed in a year. Well, at least I can say I survived the experience without being completely mortified

Amen to that. Two years+ into fanfic writing and I don't think I ever want to stop. Like you said, it's a fulfilling feeling, and a happy one.
Posting your first fanfic is always nervewracking. Well, for me it was. But I had reason to be- mine sucked, while yours is quite good, really. Much better than other first tries at fanfic I've seen!
