I made a Waldorf-style doll for MaryAlice's second birthday (this past Saturday). This was something I'd wanted to have finished for her birthday last year. Then it was pushed up to Christmas. It finally existed as something other than a disembodied, hairless head around early August when I decided to buckle down and complete a little bit of it ( Read more... )

cute! i really want to do this for penny's 2nd birthday, though the project is daunting to the point where i may just accept my limitations and buy one, expensive though they are. i have made other dolls, but none that complex. bravo!

Oh, your dolls are just lovely! With your naturally artistic inclination, I have no doubt you could pull it off. The time commitment was the biggest issue for me: more so than my lack of technial acument, even.

I'm having a sewing machine issue, too, which probably added to the time-suck. So I hand-stitched the whole darn thing. My sense of priorities is slightly askew; I'll blame sleep deprivation.

So cute! Boy doll: make a center part and some fringe bangs, or use overlapping felt pieces instead of yarn and cut a zig-zag edge all around.

Thank you!

I love the felt idea! I think I'll have a lot of fun with that, actually!

It's so amazingly lovely!!! Nice job, mama! I've wanted to make Waldorf dolls, but Eli has ZERO interest in dolls, despite my having bought him one as one of his first toys.

Oh well!

Maybe I can make one as a gift, but I doubt it will be this lovely.

We bought Stuart a doll, Baby Ita (his name choice!), when he was about 18 months old and we were trying to acclimate him to the idea of babies, in general, prior to MaryAlice's birth. He was interested in the doll for a brief while, but MaryAlice has since co-opted it. (Luckily, his fondness for actual babies has persevered). I'm still firmly anti-gender-essentialism. But, sigh. The other day, MaryAlice, wearing sunglasses and a play knight's helmet and carrying one of my old handbags, announced, "I goin' shopping!" Aaaaaahhhh!
