I filled up with petrol this morning - 119.9p per litre. Ouch! Luckily I had a 5p off every litre voucher my Dad had got (yay Sainsburys!).
Mind you, the cheapest I've seen recently is about 118.9p per litre! So not exactly much choice.
So I decided to calculate what that price is to be equivalent to US prices...
What I paid today would equal £4.

Coincidently, the rent on the property where I live - one bedroom council flat - is £200 a calendar month and would be considered comfortable living for a single person or childless couple. Only I don't have to pay it. And to be fair, council properties aren't all inhabited by benefit claimants...though I am one, so I should shut up.

Not trying to pry (so feel free not to answer!), but do you actually manage to have cash left over after rent/bills and the car after a pay packet?

So 118.9 british pounds is 2.37 Canadian dollars
137.9 Canadian dollars is 0.68 British pounds
So you still win ;)

Petrol - now.. get this.. when I emigrated to NZ in Oct 2004 it cost me $45 to fill my 2ltr car and that equated to 15.73 pounds/pence (sorry no symbol on my pc). Now, it costs... get this TODAY on way home.. $108.56 which is 46.39 english. so, THREE TIMES AS MUCH. AND - there is no real reason except greed/greed/greed/paranoia/greed... and the best part, is, it's gone up 150% basically and us employees... still not earning a 4% pay rise.
for those who think this is still cheap - well.. the cost of living here to the UK is different when you compare earnings to cost of living. We're pretty well struggling with bills and living in general.
Where will it end... oh and for the Green Folk - I've bought a pushbike, so have hubby and the boys...
